Job Location: Cambridgeshire Job Position: Senior Development Engineer x 4 Job Status: Contract Job Description: An exciting opportunity has arisen to become part of a team of engineers responsible for the performance and emissions development of Perkins Diesel engine products. The engines are used in machine, industrial and electric power applications. The Core Engine Performance Team will grow to a circa 30 strong team of performance development engineers responsible for engine performance and ratings development for the 4 and 6 cylinder engine ranges, looking at 4-7 litre engines manufactured on site and at other global facilities. Qualifications/Skills/Experience Essential: Strong technical aptitude Accredited Engineering Degree or relevant experience and demonstrated competency Strong understanding of engine component design, mathematical models A demonstrated high level of capability and experience working independently within engine performance and emissions development, preferably for Diesel engines Specific experience with the development of electronically controlled engines is essential with an understanding of the control system requirements Desirable: Previous experience in a leadership role will be beneficial but not essential Performance calibration experience in off-highway diesel engine components FMEA and 8D problem solving awareness is useful though not essential Industry: A background in Automotive sector / Diesel Engine or Spark Ignition Consultancy Responsibilities: The Senior Development Engineer will be responsible for overseeing and coordinating engine development work, including pre-test planning, detailed specification and writing of testing instructions, reviewing test data to ensure quality and post-test data analysis. A key role will be the development of electronic engine calibration maps that will be utilized in the engine control software. This role will involve leading other junior engineers from a technical perspective. Taking ownership and accountability for project work and the work of the junior engineers. There is potential to be involved in supporting engine system simulation, engine aftertreatment or regeneration strategy development to enable the engine to meet customer's performance expectations and all emission regulations. Key Responsibilities: Working with technologies to contribute and support Tier 4 final development to understand legislative requirements and customer product objectives Generating new tools to support the project Advanced analysis and interpretation of testing data to define calibration requirements Root cause analysis of identified technical issues Technical reporting of executed development Identify quality issues and understand performance interactions Lead technical discussions and to understand the interactions which influence engine calibration optimisation Ownership of technical projects and assisting with the development of junior engineers Potentially leading a small team of engineers - people and technical management Use of appropriate techniques and recommendations in light of the data analysis Key Relationships: The Senior Development Engineer will present updates and information to Senior levels of managements within multiple functions of the business including : Air systems teams Fuel Teams Core Components teams Manufacturing engineering Applications engineering Computer Aided Engineering Team Customers (Cat Machine Groups) Key Competencies: Key behaviours Must have strong technical skills and understanding and ability to communicate technical information effectively.
