Duration: 6 Months Contract Location: Keller, TX/ Zip Code: 76248 Compensation: Negotiable Role: UNIX Admin Role Description: The UNIX Admin, under supervision will perform activities and team leadership required to support a large, complex UNIX-based computing environment. Responsibilities: - Utilize customer service skills while acting as a technical resource to internal departments and system users. - Use technical skills to proactively put scripts and documentation in place to comply with current standards. - Provide advanced system administration, operational support and problem resolution for a large complex UNIX computing environment. - Attend meetings as a team representative. - Monitor server performance and capacity. - Use change management process. - Act as a liaison for customer relations. - Forecast system demands and recommends upgrades, expansions and reconfigurations. - Perform computing environment build-outs, site setup, user training, hardware/ software installation, maintenance and support and documentation of operating procedures and processes. - Perform UNIX administration including changes, deletes, disk space management, and backups. - Troubleshoot hardware and software problems, takes appropriate corrective action and/or interacts with IT staff or vendors in performing complex testing, support, server recovery, and troubleshooting functions. - Stay in tune with new technologies. - Perform other duties as assigned. Required Experience and Skills: - Extensive knowledge of UNIX operating environment, Sun Solaris 2.X, UNIX Shells and standard utilities, data telecommunication technology (e.g., network protocols and topologies). - Knowledge of Veritas VCS/VFS, Linux, NAS, TCP/IP. - Bachelors degree in Computer Science or a related discipline. - 6 or more years experience in (Sun Solaris) UNIX systems operations and administration, telecommunications network installation, operations and maintenance or an equivalent combination of education and work experience.
