Senior 4G LTE Mobile Device Architect Herndon, VA Position Overview: Searching for a Senior Mobile Device Architect to join our device Technology Development engineering team. A successful candidate will have responsibility for researching, analyzing, defining, and bringing to market multi-mode, multi-band 3G/4G device architectures and implementations in co-operation with our MVNO and ecosystem partners. Specific responsibilities also include definition of device requirements as it pertains to mobile broadband devices, particularly smartphones and tablets. This role provides a unique opportunity to define and impact the direction of the next generation device portfolio. The candidate should have a good knowledge of multi-mode, multi-bands device hardware and software architectures, ecosystem, and technological developments in this area. Furthermore, the candidate must have a solid knowledge and understanding of 4G technologies with respect to OFDMA, MIMO systems, Physical Layer, MAC layer, IP protocol, authentication and encryption protocols, and overall 4G network architectures, system design methodologies and criteria, as well their implications on device performance. Responsibilities: * The candidate will be responsible for definition of multi-mode, multi-band 3G/4G device architectures based on state-of-the art research, analysis, and innovative solutions. * Specify device requirements that utilize complex 3G/4G end-to-end network systems, from RAN interactions through core network, back-office IT systems, and value added services. * Establish and maintain technical relationships with external partner companies, including international organizations, as it relates to product design, implementation, and market introduction. * Research, collaborate, and influence 3rd party vendor in order to develop innovative device solution. * Collaborate effectively with peers across the multi-site organization to solve complex problems in their respective areas in a time and effective manner. Qualifications: * Degree in specific subject area EE, CS * The candidate should have a BSc in electrical engineering, computer science, or relevant area. An MSc or PhD would be preferred. * At least 10 years of working experience in wireless mobile technologies, with 5 years on device design and implementation. * Solid understanding of 4G technologies, such as MIMO, OFDM, MAC layer, QoS, IP protocols, VoIP, data protocols, data encryption and authentication methodologies. * Good understanding of device hardware and software architectures, real-time operating systems, chipset performance, and design methodologies. * Familiar with 3GPP/3GPP-2 standards, overall network architectures, and interdependencies between 3G and 4G networks. * Excellent written communication skills with emphasis on requirement and specification definition, and other documentation. Good oral presentation skills in a large multi-partner environment. * Experience project and program management background with demonstrated experience in co-operating cross functional teams and to able to drive outside vendor/supplier evaluation, feature negotiation, and performance measurement. * Familiarity with basic lab equipment (spectrum analyzers, protocol, analyzers, etc.) and systems integration/debug experience is required, as is experience in authoring test specifications and running test programs. * Flexible person with the ability to manage challenging situations and adapt to changing and fast pace environments.
