SQL Server Database Administrator
Our client in North East Ohio is seeking a SQL DBA for a 6 month contract engagement. SQL Server Database Administrator Job Description: Participate in the administration of the SQL Server databases, IIS and SQL Server networking infrastructures. Assist with data operations, recovery, and security for SQL Server databases. Develops logical and physical table designs and conducts SQL engineering through consultation, design and code reviews. Perform activities related to the promotion and migrations of software and associated components through the pre-production to production instances. Provide guidance and training to development staff and end users in SQL, DDL, and other database related issues. Develop and maintain database administration processes and documentation. Initiate continuous improvement initiatives within the organization. Maintain the integrity of the database environments. The ideal candidate will be a highly motivated self-starter with at least five (5) years of hands on IT experience. This position requires active involvement in an on call rotation, after hours support and resolving issues that come into the DBA group help line. A. Defines scope and deliverables for assigned tasks on technical projects. Interprets, identifies, defines, and organizes detailed user and technical requirements. Coordinates and collaborates with others in analyzing collected requirements to ensure that plans and identified solutions meet customer and technical needs and expectations. Confirms and prioritizes project deliverables with the customer. B. Troubleshoots basic problems and recommends appropriate action. Uses and applies principles/concepts/techniques of strategic and supported technologies. Under minimal direction, applies principles, theories and concepts, as well as knowledge of related disciplines, to work activities and projects. Under general direction, conceptualizes, designs, constructs, tests, and implements portions of all supported and strategic technology solutions. C. Day to day activities include facilitating, transferring, applying and teaching database, data accessing concepts & knowledge. Participate in the design, development, implementation and support of databases that provide information to improve business operations and decision-making. D. Ensures that data is secure, available and maintained. E. Creates detailed communications, both verbal and written, to facilitates collaboration to drive completion of primary functions. F. Collaborates with local and global peers to develop and standardize on best practice methods of operation G. Researches, introduces and recommend new technologies and processes and methodology for leveraging new technologies H. Reviews and reports to management on industry trends for planning purposes I. Demonstrates absolute attention to detail and focus on quality in execution of detailed intricate • The candidate should possess a minimum of five years of experience in a medium to large-scale environment or extensive experience in T-SQL development with an understanding of RDBMS database concepts. • Demonstrated experience in implementing and supporting Microsoft SQL Server. • Experience in installing, patching and administrating SQL Server 2005 through current releases. • Experience as a SQL Server DBA. • Competence in Windows scripting required. • Competence in Windows operating systems. • Working knowledge of performance monitors and debugging tools. • Ability to solve problems independently, quickly, and completely, and to communicate them clearly to peers, customers, and upper management. • Strong customer focus and management of customer expectations; ability to establish and maintain a positive level of user trust and confidence in IT’s knowledge of and concern for users’ business needs • Experience developing SQL based applications. • Experience in the automation of support for large scale application infrastructure. • Design, maintain, and implement database management systems which provide the organization with orderly methods of data storage and controlled access to critical data. • Demonstrates technical expertise in applications software, computer hardware, data communications, systems analysis techniques, and project management skills. • Provides technical expertise to complex assignments of significant importance to overall IT structure integrity and efficiency. • Background working with data warehouses and operational data stores. • Familiarity with SSRS and SSAS • Familiarity with SSIS tools • Familiarity with Windows clustering • Experience developing .NET web based applications. • Familiarity with SAN environments • Familiarity with Virtualization Education Requirements • BA/BS degree or equivalent experience.
