Desktop Support Technician Toronto, ON Canada Job Description: Looking for a candidate with a minimum of 5-7 years of experience working within the investment banking industry, preferably in the trading floor environment. The ideal candidate will be a highly motivated individual looking to join a cutting edge team supporting. This position will be based out of Toronto, where the firm has an increasing presence of front office users. The candidate must have the technology expertise to diagnose, formulate and execute solutions in a finite period of time. The individual must be a team player, while also being able to work unsupervised. The individual must have the ability to communicate effectively with technical and non-technical personnel and have a flexible approach to tackling various application issues. Fast and cool thinking, mature and client oriented characteristics are key indicators of successful deskside technicians. The candidate must be able to under pressure, have great communication skills, be a team player, be open minded to changes, as well as being a hard worker. The candidate must also be eager to learn as well as being a quick learner. This is a Monday - Friday position and the working hours will be 7am - 4pm. This position will be working out of downtown Toronto. Responsibilities: Respond to and process requests for support from the Service desk, or directly from clients. Provide technical advice on all applications and services that are specified in the Products and Services Catalogue. Ensure that all requests for support are acted upon in a timely and professional manner and escalated as necessary. Ensure that a user experiences minimal disruption by quickly resolving technology problems. Provide ad hoc user training on various desktop technologies to improve client effectiveness. Identify risks to the client or business and implement solutions to reduce them. Advise clients proactively on the best use of the existing technology. Act as an agent to perpetuate GT Production Client Services goals and objectives. Essential Skills: Expertise in Microsoft operating systems (Win XP & Win 7) Proficient with the MS Office suite including Outlook 2007– specifically with Excel, and the financial markets related addins (Bloomberg, Reuters, Thompson One, Factset, Xtapi etc) as well as experience with VBA (knowledge of other scripting languages preferable as well, VBS, Powershell, Perl, etc) Familiar with IT infrastructure components and the various related technologies, like multicast networks, TCP/IP troubleshooting, DNS (DHCP/Static IP). Must be familiar with virtual machine administration. Familiar with web proxies, and troubleshooting. Understanding of Active Directory Understanding of Windows and Unix mixed environment support In depth knowledge of Windows registry Knowledge of collaboration platforms (OCS, AIM, Yahoo, etc) Knowledge of Market Data applications and infrastructure (Bloomberg, Reuters, Thompson One, Factset, etc) Familiarity with the latest hardware platforms including multi processor & multi monitor setups Familiarity with mobile platforms technologies such as Blackerry, iPhone, iPad. Knowledge of messaging platforms used within the financial industry, such as FIX, Tibco, etc Ability to think outside the box, creating custom solutions based on varying circumstances. College degree in computer science or similar discipline.
