Lead Process Engineer

Primary Responsibilities: Provide main application engineering interface to customers for the design of battery modules and packs. Owner of battery module & pack system level requirements; conduct Voice of Customer interviews, organize requirements, and communicate these requirements within the company Work closely with marketing functions to understand customer technical requirements and build multi-generation technical plans for different applications. Take conceptual designs through customer sourcing, design development, product validation, manufacturability, and launch Communicate and interact with other engineering staff who are responsible for developing cells and packs including: concepts, prototypes and working production units Coordinate and conduct design verification testing at component, subsystem, and system level. Develop detailed project plans, timelines, deliverables and quality plans. Proactively drive & secure intellectual property including invention disclosures, case filings, and office actions. Develop improved engineering methods for pack and cell design. Assess competitive technologies Lead overall prototype work plan with support of other engineers to support Program Engineering Win2Launch deliverables Lead program specific cell or pack development to insure components and systems meet program targets for technical attributes, design, cost, quality, etc. Drive robust engineering process & discipline including QFD, Boundary Diagrams, Interface Matrices, FMEA’s, Robustness Checklists, DFM, DFA, DVP&R, RDM, Special Characteristics, etc. Approve component drawings and release assembly drawings and specifications. Manage concern resolution with the customer Prepare & present technical papers externally, and properly document all technical learning internally. Position Qualifications: B.S., M.S. or PhD in Electrical Engineering or equivalent Minimum 10 years’ experience in design / release of electrical and mechanical components or systems into the automotive market. Minimum 2 years of experience in HEV, PHEV, or EV vehicle programs, and in automotive battery design and/or integration. Experience in evaluating material, designing and conducting tests preferred. Good working knowledge of ISO, SAE, USABC and design & testing procedures for batteries. Chemical knowledge of batteries is a definite plus. Working knowledge of CANAlyzer, CANoe and NI based analysis and development tools Work with vendors to develop specialized electrical components and mechanical tooling Knowledge of controls, electronics, software, power electronics packaging & energy systems. Knowledge of Finite Element Analysis for stress, fluid, and thermal analysis is desired. Experience in leading projects through the complete product development cycle. International project leadership/teamwork skills a plus. Proficient at scoping and developing detailed project plans, timelines, deliverables and quality plans. Excellent communications and interpersonal skills - position requires strong interaction in multi-functional team environment especially cross-functionally within the company. Good skills in written and spoken English required, French or Korean a plus. Must be a self-starter who takes the initiative to find solutions to technical challenges Must demonstrate expertise in design with a wide range of materials and manufacturing processes. Must demonstrate knowledge of and proficiency with creative problem solving methods. Good understanding of industry design and documentation standards.
