Network Engineer
Position Summary The Network Engineer will help plan the technology roadmap at client site and support the network and computing infrastructure. He/She will perform the installation, configuration and maintenance of network servers and equipment. Essential Functions Design, install and configure network infrastructure, including core network switches, routers, network performance monitoring tools, VPN concentrators. Install, configure, maintain and administer DNS and DHCP systems (very important) Perform daily network maintenance and troubleshooting, apply operating system patches, software upgrades, and hardware firmware updates to network servers, switches, routers, firewalls, etc. (important) Plan, implement and monitor network security, including, but not limited to, setting up firewalls, intrusion detection & prevention, web filtering, and anti-spam/virus systems (important) Support Voice over IP (VOIP) services, Storage Area Network (SAN) and Server Virtualization (important) Assist with the planning, design, research and acquisition of new or upgraded hardware/software systems. Generate, maintain and update, as necessary, network diagrams and documentation. Perform system administration, back-up systems configurations/databases, monitor system faults and usage load. Support network equipment in the collocation site. Research technology solutions to improve technology and provide more efficient services to our internal customers. Assist with management and maintenance of Storage Area Networks (SAN) and Virtualized environment (important) Document network topology and update as necessary. Configure and support Virtual Private Networks (VPN) for site to site access and secure remote access by end-users (important) Qualifications - These describe the minimum level of qualifications for an applicant to be able to perform the essential functions of the job. Education: Bachelors degree in Computer Science, or equivalent experience. Experience: Three years in; network administration, Unix/Linux systems administration; sendmail, bind, network security, DNS, DHCP, SAN, virtualization, security, VOIP (important) Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Excellent communication skills are required. Ability is come up with new network designs which will save money and time for the organization. Ability to multitask. Able to complete tasks on time. Excellent troubleshooting skills. Technical skills include understanding of (Important) a. basic, static and dynamic routing, e.g., IP, RIP, EIGRP, OSPF, BGP b. Subnetting and supernetting. c. Layer 2 switching; STP (Spanning-Tree Protocol); broadcast, unicast, multicast; collision domain and broadcast domain; ARP table; port speed and duplex; CRC and runts. d. VPN and security; ICMP, IPSec and ACL. e. Network health monitoring, SNMP, syslog and packet sniffing. f. DNS, MXrecords, DHCP
