Data Warehouse Developer Location: Naperville, IL Duration: 6 months Essential Duties and Responsibilities: 24x7 support of data warehouse databases Diagnosing and resolving system, application software or other related problems that impact database availability Be available to work after-hours and weekends as needed Help application development teams with data modeling, code optimization, data and code migrations and quality control Establish, maintain, and control project data models and data dictionaries Perform database administration activities including but not limited to installation, configuration, backups and maintenance of the databases in multiple environments Perform database tuning activities using different approaches such as identifying inefficient SQL, reviewing indexing strategies, database and server configurations Ensure the reliability, serviceability, and maintainability of databases and systems with demonstrable accuracy, privacy, and security Perform data migration and ETL using SSIS and other applicable tools Develop test plans and test data for database systems and support software Design, implement, and periodically test the database back-up and recovery procedures Monitor and coordinate installation and upgrades of hardware and software as necessary to provide database support and enhance database performance Familiar with traditional software lifecycle methodologies, including Agile. Create design documents when and as required. Work effectively with the entire Business Intelligence, IT and lines of business departments Utilizes standard company tools/procedures to record change and problem activities for tracking purposes Develop disaster recovery/business continuity environments, reporting and data mining environments Review literature and other resources in order to keep informed of new technology advances that may have a positive/negative effect on our base level support and/or development toolkit Work with Architects, Managers and DBAs in relation to the planning, design and execution of database administration and development activities using most recent database and software development tools and methodologies Technical Requirements 4+ years of direct administration with relational databases primarily in a Microsoft SQL Server 2008 4+ years of direct responsibilities performing DBA work in a high availability production environment 4+ years of experience troubleshooting performance problems, and performing application releases 4+ years experience in T-SQL / SQL / DB2 tuning, writing stored procedures, functions and complex queries 3+ years proficiency in the use of SQL Server profiler, advisor and related tools, bcp, data export/import Experience with Cognos Framework Manager and Cognos Administration (license and access management) Be able to automate day-to-day activities like database backups, monitoring and maintenance Skills to implement performance tuning process using standard SQL/DB2 server utilities Knowledge to support and perform maintenance and tuning activities on existing database sub-systems within the application development environments and document solutions for delivery to production Recruiting Requirements Bachelors degree, or equivalent experience, in Computer Science or equivalent education and experience Four (4) years progressive experience in database field Three (3) years of SSIS experience Outstanding analytical and problem solving skills Demonstrated written and verbal communication skills Demonstrated success in managing customer requirements or demands Excellent attention to detail Ability to anticipate problems and take decisive action Experience with supporting multiple projects/tasks simultaneously Insurance industry experience is desired If this sounds like the position for you, please send your resume today.
