Internship Vacancy: Media and Research Intern Closing Date: August 15, 2012 Position Title: Media and Research Intern – Video, Photography and Impact Measurement Location: 2-3 months based in Arusha, Tanzania with 1-2 months in Geneva, Switzerland Dates: To be defined: September 2012 - December 2012 About FTE: The Foundation for Technical Education (FTE) is a Geneva, Switzerland based philanthropic organization committed to providing the tools and essential skills that are needed for young people to achieve successful careers in the technical field. FTE works with developing countries that are in need of technical training and has forged strong relations with Tanzania through its pilot technical training facility KIITEC. Based in Arusha, Tanzania, The Kilimanjaro International Institute for Telecommunications, Electronics and Computers (KIITEC) is a technical education centre supplying skilled and competent technicians to meet the needs of local industries. Through the hands-on education they have received, graduates of KIITEC are provided a chance to receive practical employment opportunities to support themselves and their families. About the Role The purpose of the role is two-fold. 1) Media: To contribute to raising the profile of FTE's work regionally and globally by building audio-visual communication materials. In this capacity, the Media Intern will produce high-quality images and compelling short videos demonstrating the projects of FTE in the East African region. 2) Research: To manage the development and launch of the KIITEC Alumni Association. This involves travel across Tanzania to make contact with past students to complete the database in order to track the impact of our alumni. The Internship will last for an initial period of 4 months and report to the FTE Director of Operations. The position will be largely autonomous with independent travel throughout Tanzania. Core Duties and Responsibilities • Bring vision and creativity to build high-quality promotional style videos and photography based on the theme of technical education in aid of development • Make available formats of these videos and images through FTE's website and through social media forums • Data gathering through research and interviews with current and former students associated with FTE and build a comprehensive database based on information collected • Manage the development of the KIITEC Alumni Association and implement measures to ensure its long-term sustainability Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Electronic Media, Communications or similar Working knowledge and access to personal video production equipment and editing suites for the purpose of the assignment Social media expertise 6 months to 1 year experience in video handling Other Qualities Vibrant personality with the ability to work independently Strong interest in issues related to technology and social change in the developing world Strong research skills Knowledge of and adherence to professional ethics Willing to travel to remote locations and interact with local cultures independently Travel • The position includes a field trip to Arusha, Tanzania with travel to some remote locations in the surrounding area Compensation • This is a paid internship with CHF 2,500 monthly compensation plus paid travel expenses Website: www.ftefoundation.org Keywords: Marketing
