Job Title - Civil Engineering Designer Location - South West, Somerset Sector - Civil Engineering (Highways) Contract - Freelance 6 - 12 month Salary - �22 - �27 per hour An established and very successful civil engineering main contractor is looking for a highways maintenance Designer to be a part of the Highways & Transportation business within the south west to operate, maintain and improve the road networks. My client is looking for a Highway Maintenance Designer to co-ordinate and undertake all highway maintenance design activities across Somerset. Candidates must have experience and be able to design/specify surfacing materials along with design of other small civil schemes. They really need to have some site/ maintenance experience rather than typical consultancy/ CAD design. The successful candidate will report to the Design Engineer and based in Taunton (some flexibility may exist to work in other Somerset offices), this is a key role within our design team. Your primary responsibility will be to co-ordinate and undertake all highway maintenance design activities across Somerset and support the other designers to ensure a consistently high level of delivery across the business. *Ensure that designs can be constructed in a safe and commercially beneficial manner. *To design structural maintenance schemes accurately to the schedule of rates. *The preparation of legible and accurate design drawings and priced Bills of Quantities. To ensure you're successful in the role, you'll need to be able to demonstrate the following qualities and attributes: *Excellent communication skills - verbal, written, report writing and presentation - to ensure clarity in all situations and to effectively communicate your design proposals to Supervisors, the client, workforce and subcontractors. *Tried and tested methods of influencing in all situations. *Highly organised and able to juggle and prioritise, whilst multi-tasking for many stakeholders, and still remaining focused on what's most important and ultimately on delivery. *Ability to collaborate and build relationships across the wider teams, embracing the new structure, new ways of working and remain focused.
