Content Editor
Are you an energetic, detail-oriented and creative self-starter with an abiding passion for New York City? If so, we are looking for freelance editors available now to work with us on the launch team of NewYork.com, a new entertainment and travel site devoted to delivering a full-service experience for those visiting New York as well as the locals who love to enjoy everything the city offers. We are seeking a Content Editor for immediate hire, a master word-crafter who will report to the Editor in Chief and work closely with our Site Editor and the rest of the NewYork.com team. In this role, the editor is accountable for overseeing freelance writers, managing the editorial production calendar and deliverables, and editing site content in preparation for launch. Some original writing will be required. The ideal candidate is a leader who will help shape our editorial vision and processes, someone who has the skill to shape and create engaging stories that balance consumer experience with business demands. The role requires a top-notch line editor, rewrite artist and overall multi-tasker; someone who is extremely detail-oriented and knowledgeable about NYC tourism and attractions (hotels, Broadway, tours, nightlife and more), editorial style guides and familiar with SEO best practices. Proven editing and writing skills are a must, as is experience editing and writing for digital platforms. This is a position for a creative, deadline-oriented go-getter; someone willing to do lots of deadline work in exchange for a valuable and rewarding experience as we build this next-generation site. We are looking for editorial talent with a passion for New York City, someone who CAN geek out in exhaustive detail about all things NYC--Broadway shows; Brooklyn food tours; Flushing Sichuan; The Yankees; bagels; pizza; Central Park; Soho shopping; MoMA; Prospect Park; The Bronx Zoo, and so on--but who can also break down the what's what of this thrilling, if sometimes overwhelming, town into more accessible, bite-sized pieces for first-time visitors, too. You may be knowledgeable, but you're not a snob. Responsibilities: -Help source, hire and manage freelance writers -Editing and rewriting -Check content for style and SEO best practices -Produce original content as needed -Cross-departmental and team communications (with editorial, marketing, product and production/technology, social media, photo and others) Qualifications: -Bachelor's degree -5+ years related online editorial experience -Extremely detail-oriented and organized -Excellent writing, editing skills -Familiar with SEO and social media best practices -Must have a strong interest in and, ideally, prior work experience in travel services or editorial, especially related to New York City (hotels, Broadway/off-Broadway shows, tours, sites and attractions) -Experience working within a CMS -Excel savvy; Basic understanding of HTML and blog publishing platforms -Must be a highly organized, self-motivated team player Keywords: Media, Editorial, Marketing, Online, Entertainment, Publishing, Internet
