Program Coordinator
Franciscan Outreach operates programs for homeless men and women that incude our 257 bed overnight shelter, and additional 65 bed shelter site, a soup kitchen, a case management program, an interim housing program within our shelter, and a 43 bed permanent housing program. This is a full-time position for a consultant or contractor who will help coordinate our programs. Responsibilities include: A. Provide Program Development and Enhancement Work closely with program directors to develop and enhance programs that meet the needs of our guests in an innovative, functional, and fundable manner. Assist program directors in designing and implementing programs in a manner consistent with our mission and vision. Assist program directors in positioning programs in the context of Chicago’s Plan to End Homelessness, local and national trends in the field, and industry best practices. Facilitate the coordination of programs within our organization. Assist program directors and development team in developing and using outcome measurements and metrics that communicate the impact of our programs to various constituent groups, including board members, donors, foundations, government funding agencies, and the public. Use outcome data to improve programs. B. Manage, Supervise, and Coach Program Managers Recruit, hire, train, manage, supervise program managers. Empower, coach, and provide guidance to program managers so that they achieve program goals. Work collaboratively with program managers to create and implement policies and procedures that ensure the consistent, safe, and effective operation of programs Be present at each site on a regular basis to develop a thorough knowledge of program activities and support program managers Update job descriptions for program managers. Guide program managers in updating job descriptions for support staff. Ensure appropriate procedures are followed for the hiring and release of staff. Assist program managers in preparing budgets that meet the needs of the programs and the organization. Assist program managers in managing program resources within budget. Evaluate performance of program directors and ensure their evaluations of staff Ensure compliance with legal and organizational requirements that relate to human resources. C. Facilities Management Oversight Assist program managers in ensuring that program sites are appropriately maintained, cleaned, compliant with building codes, and monitored for health and safety issues Review proposals for significant repairs to ensure appropriateness and cost effectiveness. Ensure access to technology as needed to accomplish program goals D. Internal Relationship Development • Work closely with Executive Director to carry out mission of the organization. • Attend board meetings and participate in board committees as appropriate. • Maintain relationships with staff through managers’ meetings, All-Staff Meetings, and company retreats. Engage with donors during site visits and events. Provide updates and human interest stories to development team as requested. Mandatory Job Qualifications •5 to 10 years experience in the field of homeless services or a related field • A bachelor's degree in a related field, Master's degree preferred. • Creativity, innovation and persistence • Excellent managerial and coaching skills. • Excellent analytical, problem solving, and conflict resolution skills. • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. • The ability to work independently and as part of a team • The ability to interact verbally with volunteers, staff, guests, and others • An understanding of and ability to use technology to enhance and maintain programs • A valid drivers license and personal vehicle. • Excellent computer skills, including Microsoft Word We are an equal opportunity employer.
