POSITION SUMMARY The Test Engineering Technician is responsible for assisting the Test Group and Engineering Development Teams in the evaluation and testing of individual components, sub-systems, or products to determine and improve performance or reliability. SCOPE OF POSITION The Engineering Technician reports to the Senior Mechanical Engineer in charge of Test and Reliability. Organziation, follow through and communication skills are important to this position. The Engineering technician will be expected to use vocational and basic math skills to complete the assignments given by the requesting engineers and should be able to set up testing equipment making sure all gaging systems are properly calibrated, run the test to the test specification, acquire, organize and report on the resulting data. Conducts engineering experiments and tests, collects test data, reduces the data, and writes reports summarizing the experiments and tests within a time frame determined by the requesting engineer and Test Group. Contributes to or designs test fixtures. Fabricates small or simple mechanical test fixtures using common shop hand tools. Wires, plumbs, and troubleshoots pneumatics and instrument test fixtures. Performs basic troubleshooting analysis of products or process problems that are discovered during testing. Troubleshoots and repairs products and assemblies, to the component level. Follows all safety procedures and is proactive in setting new procedures where required. Follows all electronics lab electrostatic discharge prevention procedures. Performs other duties as assigned. Experience: One year or more experience working in a manufacturing production environment performing product tests. One year or more experience in an Engineering Lab, performing product tests or reliability predictions very desirable. Experience with Solidworks CAD modeling preferred. Knowledge of and ability to use micrometers, calipers, hand and power tools. Machining experience with lathes, mills and other machine shop tools preferred. Basic math skills, algebra, and geometry are required. Knowledge of pneumatic design, schematic reading, component identification, selection and troubleshooting preferred. Knowledge of electronics test equipment including voltmeters, ammeters, ohmmeters, and oscilloscopes preferred. Knowledge of electronics troubleshooting techniques including safety procedures necessary when working on high-voltage supplies. Skill set should also include knowledge of personal computers, Microsoft Office software, data acquisition and PLCs or other automation controllers.
