Our Financial Services client based in Cambridge requires a Senior Java Developer/ Architect/ Team Lead for a CONTRACT opportunity, initially for 6 months. Mandatory Skills: * Experienced Enterprise Java Developer - J2EE and multi-threaded J2SE * Middleware deployment and configuration (ideally Oracle Fusion/Weblogic stack) * SQL (Preferably Sybase and Oracle) including optimisation of queries * Apache/Tomcat * Source code control (SVN) * Unix (Preferably Sun Solaris and/or Oracle Enterprise Linux) * UML Desirable: * Perl * CGI scripts * BPMN/BPEL * Virtualised Linux deployments * Atlassian tool set * Performance tools * Oracle tools People Management: * Mentoring role to less experienced engineers. * Possible line management of junior technical roles. A flexible approach is necessary for the role as the business requirements and their relative priorities are subject to review and change. The Role * The successful candidate will work as part of a team with particular responsibility for system architecture and design for our clients current global platform. * The role will provide technical leadership and be a full member of onshore and near-shore development project teams undertaking hands-on development and maintenance of software based solutions that make up our clients systems * The role will also involve creating high level and low level designs for our clients new greenfield global platform based upon the Oracle software stack (Weblogic, SOA Suite, OSB, Exadata). * Experience in performance engineering is highly desirable. * The role will act as a mentor to others within the development team. * Our client is currently looking to adopt lean/agile development methods; practical experience of these would be an asset. Skills & Experience * Extensive experience of design leadership - ideally with enterprise systems * Solid industry experience of software (and ideally hardware) architecture, including J2EE, databases, clustering and load balancing, distributed file-systems, storage, virtualization, architecture and design patterns. * Extensive experience of object oriented analysis and design. * Good knowledge of web application security * Performance testing: * Design of performance test frameworks, test strategy, and test reporting * Experience of building performance and capacity models for IT systems which allow System performance and capacity bottlenecks to be identified and allow impact of change to be predicted. * Hands on experience of using/developing performance testing tools and 'injector' type technology within a Web environment * Proven experience in software development in a number of languages and environments. * Extensive SOA design and implementation experience * Degree level education (in related subject of computing, maths, science, engineering) or equivalent. * Experience of complex internet applications and/or the finance industry. * Good industry knowledge including: languages, products, open source frameworks. * Knowledge/practical application of agile methods * Demonstrable track record in delivering work to schedule and specification. * Experience in good development practise (CI, unit testing, TDD, agile, etc) * Experience of database design in large database systems.
