Good technical knowledge of Red Hat Enterprise Linux 4.8 and 5.5, Solaris 8, Ontap 7 and 8 OS for Network Appliance File Servers, NIS, and some familiarity with the Electronic Design Automation (EDA) environment are required. SPECIFIC PROJECTS: Procurement and installation of Linux workstations and servers. Installation of Red Hat Linux using the Kickstart process. Storage capacity upgrade (NetApp file servers) and data migration. Creation of design directories with Qtrees on the NetApp. Support the backup of design data. Monitoring of filers and servers using Nagios. NIS domain consolidation and setting up NIS slaves. Provide end user desktop support. EoD software rollout and support. OVERVIEW: Contribute to a team that supports over 150 engineers and datacenters / server rooms at Hillsboro Oregon, with 24x7 on-call support. Systems include: Linux and Windows workstations; Linux, Solaris and HP-UX servers; printers and plotters. System administration support includes: license servers; file servers and data backups; design data management; DNS and NIS infrastructure servers; login servers and remote access software; office applications and email; and user account management. Support will include EDA environment with tools from Cadence, Synopsys and Mentor. Work with the EDA team to test design tools on different hardware architectures. System and network performance monitoring and tuning, and IO monitoring and analysis Review system metrics for storage and servers, and recommend solutions to resolve the issues. Participate in meetings with internal customers on a regular basis to understand their needs, prioritize the tasks, and ensure that the projects are completed in a timely manner. Timely response to customer tickets required. Participation in the planning of sites moves, construction of server rooms, and integration of hardware and software infrastructure of companies that the client acquires. Participation in the datacenter asset audits. QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or equivalent 5+ years of experience with designing, implementing, and managing hardware and software solutions and supporting engineering compute environments Red Hat Enterprise Linux and Windows system administration Package management, user and group management, and Kickstart installations NFS administration, Network Attached Storage, Network Appliance file servers with ONTAP 7 and ONTAP 8 operating systems Network administration - TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, NIS, SSH Configuration and support of printers and plotters using CUPS UNIX Shell scripting (csh, bash) and Perl scripting VMWare workstation virtual machines and VMWare ESXi server virtual machines Open Office and Thunderbird email client Knowledge of HP-UX and Solaris 8 operating systems a plus Knowledge of Active Directory a plus Knowledge of Nagios system and network monitoring tool and cfEngine system configuration management tool a plus Knowledge of LSF Load Balancing Software, FlexLM licensing software and Synchronicity or IC Manage design data management software a plus Knowledge of VNC and Exceed on Demand remote access software a plus Experience supporting CAD environments in the semiconductor industry and familiarity with EDA Tools from Cadence, Synopsys and Mentor a plus Ability to interface daily with managers and directors in a professional manner Ability to write weekly reports, create metrics, project plans Good judgment in resolving problems Excellent communication and documentation skills Ability to read, write and speak English Excellent project management skills Excellent customer support skills Excellent team player Excellent troubleshooting skills This position has the possibility of contract-to-hire.
