As a top gun C developer, you will be working on the toughest challenges in their highly parallel enterprise-grade server software, alongside brilliant engineers who will help you push your engineering skills to their limits. The applications must scale to support over 22 million cable customers, more than 16 million high-speed Internet customers, and over 8 million voice customers: are you up to the challenge? You will be working on software that allows millions of cable subscribers to enjoy features such as VOD (Video On Demand), on-screen Caller ID and interactive TV applications. Your responsibilities will include collaborating on design, investigating defects including analyzing core dumps, refactoring existing code and adding unit tests. On rare occasions you may be called upon to work nights and/or weekends to help resolve high priority issues with production systems. About you: you can write multithreaded and multi-process C code in your sleep, are best friends with gdb, can find your way around a core dump in the dark and can go on for hours about memory models, IPC, multithreading, processes and networking. You know the difference between pthread_create and join(), and can look at a page of C code and tell us where it will lock up. You know Linux inside and out, and you relish looking under the hood to see how stuff works. You can regale people at parties with in-depth explanations of TCP/IP's "SYN, SYN-ACK, ACK" sequence and have strong opinions on UDP vs. TCP as well as how good code should (and shouldn't!) be written. Personality-wise, you are smart, a good communicator, humble but confident of your skills, open, collaborative, a good team player but fully autonomous and intellectually curious. In addition to the above, the more of these you have, the more we want to talk with you: * Assembly-level coding experience * Deep Linux kernel experience * Extensive server-side development experience * Deep knowledge of TCP/IP and UDP/IP networking * C++ * Experience writing unit tests with one of the xUnit frameworks, especially CUnit or CppUnit * A demonstrable history of contributing to open source projects * Java programming experience * Experience with automated build, especially Maven, Ant, TeamCity, Hudson/Jenkins or other CI systems * Experience with source control systems such as CVS and Subversion.
