Data Network Engineer
Location: Birmingham Status: Contract Compensation: Submit Competitive Rate Education Level: Not Specified Our client is looking for a Network Engineer to join their team either as a permanent employee, or on a 6 month contract to hire basis. General Responsibilities: The incumbent's basic function is to implement and support internetworking technology that maintains the efficiency and security of the local and wide area network. Leading projects that accomplish improved functionality and security of the network infrastructure make up much of the incumbent's assigned projects. The position is responsible for implementing and upgrading new network infrastructure components and troubleshooting problems therein. The position assists the Network Architect and Network Engineer in the ongoing maintenance of corporate network installations, upgrades and DNS and DHCP services. Other key responsibilities include server upgrades, data circuit installation, IP Telephony, implementation of firewalls and Intrusion Detection System (IDS). This position also provides Level II technical support for network troubleshooting. Qualifications: Bachelor degree and 3 years networking and telecommunication experience or 7 years networking experience. CCNA (Cisco Certified Network Associate) or CCDA (Cisco Certified Design Associate) certification. Experience in multi-site networking implementation and maintenance. Experience troubleshooting problems within the network infrastructure. Ability to travel overnight up to 15% of the time to offices across the nation. Proficiency in TCP/IP networking protocol, DNS/DHCP Services, Visio, Packet Traces, and Microsoft Office applications. Microsoft MCSE, Network Plus, CCDP, or CCNP certifications preferred. Experience focusing on the security and/or auditing of a network is preferred. Experience with the installation and support of Cisco switches, routers, firewalls and systems including ASA, PIX, IOS, IPCC Enterprise, CallManager (CCM), Voice over IP (VoIP) Gateways, IP Phones, ICM and/or Unity is preferred. Experience with vulnerability scanning using Retina, Nessus or other tools is a plus. Familiarity with the internal/external structures of OSPF (Open Shortest Path First), BGP (Border Gateway Protocol), UDP (User Datagram Protocol) and/or other network protocols is a plus. Experience with Wireshark and/or other network protocol analyzer tools for Windows, Linux and Unix is a plus. Experience with RegEx (Regular Expressions) is a plus. Experience with Windows Server 2000/2003/2008 and/or Linux Server is a plus.
