PowerBuilder Developer - 12 Month Contract Job Category: Application Development Career Level: Skilled Non-Manager Work Experience: 7+ years of application development including PowerBuilder 10, SQL, Java/J2EE Industry: Insurance DESCRIPTION: MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES: Contribute and assist with all development life cycle phases: translation of business requirements into design documents, development, unit testing, and integration. Provide team with technical expertise and offer advice and solutions to technical queries. Ensure quality of deliverables through compliance with specification definition, code standard reviews, and design walkthroughs. Produce documentation like Design documents, Technical Specifications, Deployment Notes, as well as code comments. Provide technical recommendations and solutions aligned with business objectives. Assist Help Desk and/or the Managed Maintenance group in the resolution of 2nd and 3rd level application incidents. Participate in the development and technical leadership of large development projects. QUALIFICATIONS: Completion of university degree (preferably with focus on computer science, engineering or math). 7 years or more development experience. 5+ years or more experience in Object Oriented Design. Strong knowledge of development methodologies. Object-oriented analysis and design. Familiarity with design patterns. Strong in the database design skills. Strong knowledge of PowerBuilder 10 and MS SQL, SQL Stored Procedures Strong knowledge of .NET 2.0 Strong knowledge of Java/J2EE. Ability to integrate with other systems via WebServices. Superior time management and estimation capabilities and ability to perform several tasks concurrently. Ability to generate creative solutions to business problems, especially with regards to assisting in systems analysis and solutions design. Ability to complete Business Specification if required, Functional and Technical Specification. Experience creating prototypes to verify user requirements, system design documents and developing guidelines and standards. Quick learner of new technologies and procedures Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Must be a team player. Superior time management and organizational skills are essential. Self-starter with ability to work independently. Ability to mentor more junior developers. Ability to be flexible in a fast-paced environment with changing priorities. Ability to work on multiple projects and prioritize according to strategic business objectives. In addition to the skills mentioned above, one or more of the following would be an asset: SQL Reporting Services Knowledge of PFC Insurance industry experience. Experience with WebSphere Application Server. UML standards and tools. Working experience with MQ Series. Experience with VisualStudio 2008. Experience with .NET.
