PHP Chart Plug-In for web site - MySQL Drupal PHP HTML5
We are looking for a PHP developer that can complete a project with three components: 1. A system to scrape information from the internet in public data sources 2. A system to automate this task daily and update a MYSQL database if there are changes 3. A way to present this data in chart form on the website as a plug-in. This is our website: In the upper right of the home page of the site we will have a link that says 'chart of the day'. This is the goal of this project. The first task is to scrape information from specific web sites to build charts. There are numerous public data sources where this data will come from and it is in many forms. Some sites have raw data (in table format), some allow you to download CSV files, and some present the data in excel. There are also some that use HTML tabular charts which should be easy to scrape using the Google docs ImportHtml command. Some of the sites that might be scraped from are: /hmda/hmdaproducts.htm /indices/sp-case-shiller-home-price-indices/en/us/?indexId=spusa-cashpidff--p-us---- /Default.aspx?Page=14 /library/sourcesUS.html /resource-center/data-chart-center/Pages/index.aspx /cpi/ /datadownload/ /initiatives/financial-stability/results/Pages/mha_publicfile.aspx There are more sites that will be added, but they will have a similar format to the above sites. The above is the bulk of the data sources. The second task is to automate the scraper to perform the data scrape on a daily basis. No rocket science here, just make it happen every day and if data has changed update the MYSQL database. Many of the data sources will be updated only once a month or even quarterly. A few will be daily though. The third task will be to turn the data into a chart and provide a plug in for the web site to replace the image that is currently there. Google charts seems to have a nice toolbox for putting this together easily, however, we are not committed to that tool and if you come up with another solution (Jquery, Javascript) we will definitely consider it (No Flash please). We want the charts to be appealing to the eye, and to be presented in a variety of types (bar chart, fill, pie chart) depending on the source data. The chart should rotate on a daily basis between all of the charts that are available, whether they have changed since they made it to the front page or not. The rest of the charts should be kept in a repository to be displayed on another page. Redesigning the repository page will be a subsequent project that will be contracted separately. Eventually it should be a very interactive, eye catching page. This bid should include the creation of 20 charts. All bids should include a quote for this project, as well as a quote to add a chart after the initial project is complete. Charts will be added to the list occasionally, and a small incremental fee would apply for each one. In addition, a small quarterly support fee is expected as well. There is not much support that will be required, but scrapers break when their source website changes. On the whole government websites (where much of the data will be coming from) do not change too often, but ongoing support and maintenance is a required part of the bid.
