Network Engineer
Volt has an immediate need for a Network Engineer. - Conducts equipment evaluations, equipment selection, pilot testing and network designs to insure reliability and scaled expansion of the network. Prepare engineering cost analysis to optimize the return on investment. - Coordinates with other departments to ensure the network is available and configured to exceed market demands. This includes the support of software upgrades and configuration changes and assisting technicians, SOC, and NOC in troubleshooting outages and resolving escalations as appropriate. - Develops, executes and maintains detailed network designs and architectural plans for network applications. Designs may include video servers, RF, or Internet topologies. - Configures and maintains devices including servers, routers, switches, wireless access points, and CMTS. - Establishes network performance measurements and goals. - Facilitates communications with employees and other departments by holding or attending meetings, preparing reports, and participating on task forces. - Makes specific recommendations and assists in implementation of plans that enhance technical operation, compliance with rules and regulations, and permits the deployment of new technology. Defines and complies the methods of procedures and documentation to support personnel in the maintenance and day-to-day operation of the network. - Manages projects with Installations and Field Service to confirm delivery intervals and validate critical dates and milestones to ensure delivery of services stay on target. - May perform reliability studies and assessments to ensure company is the Trusted Provider. - Provides detailed engineering support and consultation to other departments. - Provides telecommunication solutions to increase operational efficiencies, and expand network services. - Responsible for all aspects of local network management and network management devices. - Serves as primary subject matter expert in one or more areas of network engineering specialties (Analog, Digital, Data, Internet, Transport, Voice, etc). - Support new product deployments with installation, integration, testing, documentation, and training. - Develops methods and procedures for troubleshooting. - Works closely with customers to identify network needs that impact network design and support requirements. - Works with vendors to ensure equipment is installed and operating properly and resolves problems. Develops and implements proper operation and procedure for new technologies. - Securing all network elements including servers, routers, switches, etc. from unauthorized access. -Provides technical training and support to other employees by answering questions, and performing periodic, scheduled training sessions. - Establishes and maintains disaster recovery procedures to insure retrieval of all data and system software by performing thorough backups and doing routine maintenance. - Minimizes system interruptions by troubleshooting and correcting hardware and software problems in a timely manner. - Establishes and maintains effective communications and professional working relationships with customers, internal personnel, both at system and corporate offices, contractors and other outside contacts, including programmers and members of business community. - Efficiently organizes workday to maximize productivity by utilizing proper time management techniques. - Write scripts to automate tasks - Perform other duties as assigned Requirements: - Typically requires BS/BA or Associates degree in related discipline. Certification may be required in some areas. - Generally 0-2 years of experience in related field OR MS/MA/MBA and generally 0-1 year of experience in related field Additional Requirements - Bachelor degree in Computer Science, Computer Networking, Computer Engineering, or EE (Electronic Engineering), or a combination of related technical training and experience - Minimum 1 year experience in computer administration and computer network operations - Minimum 1 year TCP/IP networking experience or equivalent education/knowledge - Experience with Perl, PHP, MySQL, PostgreSQL, HTML - Strong Linux knowledge - Considerable knowledge of communications hardware and software techniques, typically acquired through formal and informal training in computer science or related field. - Experience with computer networking technology, PC hardware and software, service and support, security and disaster recovery - Experience with T1, fractional T1, T3, Ethernet and enterprise wireless networks. - Experience using packet capture tools such as Wireshark and / or tcpdump - Working knowledge of HTTP, SQUID, SMTP/POP3, DNS, TACACS, RADIUS - Working knowledge of routing protocols such as BGP, OSPF and MPLS - Basic System administration skills - Effective communication skills - Ability to deal with all levels of personnel, customers, outside vendors and members of the business community. - Effective office administration skills - Effective computer skills, preferably Microsoft Word and Excel. - Valid Nevada Driver's license required. - Must be able to work flexible hours and shifts and to work in any other of Las Vegas locations as needed.
