Engineering Project Manager
Major Water Company in the North West looking to recruit a MCA Project Manager on a contract basis. Job Purpose: Accountable as a projects manager to deliver Telemetry, Real-time Dashboard, PLC, SCADA and Electronic Security Projects. This role involves leading a team of engineers to deliver Monitoring, Control and Automation (MCA) technology solutions to time, specification and budget requirements. To develop appropriate Telemetry, RTD and Electronic security engineering standards and to provide support and advice to the wider business in the definition and development of asset MCA strategies. To ensure that the benefits arising from MCA investment are achieved, the Telemetry projects manager must work closely with the project sponsors and with the Capital Delivery project manager. Role details, Skills, Experience Operational Management � Review business requirements and develop solutions and project plans that ensure the successful achievement of project objectives to maximise the impact of delivery and minimise costs. � Implementation of the project plan from initiation to project closure and benefit realisation including managing change and risk, to ensure that the project delivers against agreed success criteria. � Apply recognised project planning techniques and methodologies to ensure consistency of approach across the business. � To ensure Business readiness activities are planned, are effective and are delivered to meet stakeholder requirements � To ensure that effective governance for all projects is established and maintained � To ensure that all project specific reports and plans are produced within stated timescales � Ownership of project management risks and issues both internal and external through to resolution � Raise any variance to scope or design through appropriate escalation or change path. � Monitor and review costs to prioritise spending and activity within a project to ensure the responsible out performance of all key project parameters. � Ensure that all assigned work is executed, by assigned staff, in accordance with the Dept Quality Assurance and working procedures Customer Focus � Maintain proactive dialogue with clients, understanding their requirements and responding to feedback appropriately to maximise satisfaction levels. � work closely with all stakeholders and partners to ensure delivery timescales are consistent and in line with business priorities � Conduct post implementation reviews to assess the customer satisfaction and the benefits realised. Team leadership � Identify, source and negotiate for appropriate resources to ensure an integrated, motivated and engaged highly performing project team is established and maintained. � Set targets, monitor performance and provide regular feedback to focus team member�s performance and ensure that employees are engaged and committed to performing effectively. � Communicate effectively to all team members to ensure that they are kept informed. � Ensure all activity within the team meets with legal and company standards, with particular emphasis on Health and Safety so that the client is a compliant and safe environment to work in where risks are controlled and minimised Knowledge Sharing � Champion Telemetry technology and solutions across the organisation � Identify MCA best practice and leading edge solutions, both internally and externally, and utilise these within the project to ensure the client is established as and remains a world class company. � Coach team and peers so that knowledge is shared and expertise levels continuously grow within the business unit and across the company. Risk and Opportunity management � Spot trends and assess the risks and opportunities for the business unit, prioritising activity to ensure that risks are minimised and additional value is added whenever possible. � Make decisions without assistance and include recommendations of options for the design solutions and deciding courses of action to best realise the objectives of the clients business. Essential Criteria including any necessary qualifications � Significant operational experience of utility sector management � Excellent man management and leadership skills � Significant knowledge and experience of MCA technologies and solutions � Significant experience in contract management � Excellent project planning and organisational skills � Strong interpersonal skills � Ability to influence stakeholders � Excellent verbal and written communication skills � Ability to manage own workload and work on own initiative to deadlines � Ability to engage, motivate and manage cross functional teams and partners to deliver solutions Desirable Criteria including any necessary qualifications: � Understanding of Project Management methodologies e.g. Prince2, APM � Understanding quality management systems � Good presentation skills
