Job Description Progress / SQL Server DBA Columbus, OH Progress / SQL Server DBA Job Description: One of our Fortune 100 financial clients is looking for a Progress SQL Server DBA to work out of their Columbus OH location. SQL REQUIREMENTS: Seeking to recruit an experienced MS SQL Server Database Administrator to join a global team which installs, maintains and administers mission-critical, leading-edge SQL. Responsibilities: * Day-to-day 24x7 production operations (incident break/fix, change, service requests, vulnerability management). * Production patch/upgrade management. * On-Call pager rotation. * DBMS security support. * Understanding of common infrastructure components. * Customer support & communications. * Project based infrastructure and installation work. * Providing first-class database support and administration; * Fine-tuning and optimizing poorly performing databases and the related infrastructure; * Ensuring synchronization between production replica databases; * Running on re-running of failed regular jobs and killing failed tasks; The following characteristics are considered essential: * 5 to 7 years experience as an SQL DBA in a production environment. (Versions 2000 through 2008) * Good to have atleast 1-2 yrs experience. PROGRESS REQUIREMENTS: Responsibilities: •All Progress OpenEdge database administration functions including definition, maintenance, and support in a large production environment in an enterprise network, spanning multiple geographical regions preferably in a SAN environment. •Database administration, manage and support all Production, QA and Development environments. •Database design, architecture, and implementation in an enterprise scale •Creation and conversion of Databases in different languages (including double byte). •Manage and monitor database backups and data growth. Refreshing QA and Dev environments from Live. Operational knowledge of database backup / replication softwares like EMC, Veritas etc is a plus. •Database Performance Tuning. •Manage, train, recruit and motivate high performance team to deliver technical services •Database Dump and Load and Progress upgrades •Code deployment, compilation and trouble shooting of issues relating to it. Providing support to the Development Team. •Installation and configuration of Progress and .Net UI. •Configuring and administering Progress WebSpeed •Unix scripts and be able to develop new scripts Unix Shell Scripting in writing shell scripts for database administration and monitoring. Knowledge of Progress 4GL queries •Security administration in OS / OpenEdge, user access definition, user access management, monitoring and maintaining security of the Production environments.
