We are currently seeking a Systems Analyst for a permanent opportunity based out of our Vancouver, BC offices Start date(s): Fall’2012 Reference: #1.3.2 | #69-25-MH2438 DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES: The Systems Analyst is responsible for participating in ALL major enhancements for their group of assigned applications throughout the different phases of the application life cycle. The Systems Analyst will play a key role in maintaining continuity with the Business and to the maintenance team, ensuring both are aware of expected application enhancements. The Systems Analyst will also work with the validation teams to ensure that test cases and expected results are developed that reflect how work will be done with the change(s). Responsibilities include, but not limited to: Act as the single point of contact within the Application Development team to provide major enhancement and application development to applications on his/her portfolio Cross-train on a secondary portfolio of applications to provide backup support Have a good understanding on how the applications support the business in order to provide input and recommendations whenever changes to the applications are required Prepare work effort estimates and impact analysis for suggested enhancements. Maintain status of development work Own development issues, enhancement requests or problems to their successful conclusion Engage the Application Maintenance (AM) and QA team members as required and provide support to both groups as required, including secondary 24x7 on call back-up/escalation for the AMS team as required Follow all established procedures, standard application development & sustainment techniques and practices as established for the projects he/she participates in Convert high-level architecture designs into system specifications Participate in the design of new applications and major enhancements to meet availability requirements and to enable backup and business continuity (BC)/disaster recovery (DR) at required levels Analyze business requirements in order to develop functional, technical and design specifications and ensure the requirements for change are articulated, understood and translated into the technical languages of the developers and DBAs. Work with developers to convert system designs and technical specifications into program code Confirm requirements have been properly translated to code Maintain source code and version control Participate in application integration activities as it pertains to Application Development (e.g. interfaces, interface development) Maintain log of requested changes for future projects Document application software developed or modified and maintain record of business sign-off on deliverables Develop documentation for new application and keep documentation current for each enhancement application. Provide new and/or updates and release notes for end-user documentation Update user-reference manuals and develop, document and maintain online searchable database of technical and operational documentation for applications Capture and document all lessons learned stemming from resolution of applications issues Provide change management entries into change management system for new applications and enhancements deployed to production Coordinate all change control implementations required for new applications and enhancements for assigned portfolio of applications and communicate and coordinate across multi-provider technical environment impacts resulting from new functionality/patch application and implement change strategy prior to implementation Participate in pre-implementation preparation work, documentation, testing and promotion of new application and enhancements through QA/test/development environments and submit for production per Release and Deployment procedure Participate in activities associated with initial ‘go-live’ of an application (such as application monitoring, updating support contact, creating work instruction, writing start-up/shut down scripts, managing multi-provider interaction, and updating Help Desk knowledge and self-help databases.) Provide back-out instructions for deployed new applications and enhancements to infrastructure operations as needed Participate in test plan reviews Provide guidance in the development of tests cases Facilitate and support User Acceptance Testing (UAT) Participate in reviewing changes and bug fixes with authorized users and obtaining approval of UAT results MUST-HAVES: 7+ years of systems development experience with at least 3 years in a systems analyst role Must have a technology background in the following technologies: Java, .NET, C#, and C++ as well as Database background in Oracle and Microsoft Understands different system architectures such as web based and client/server Demonstrated work experience with application development and support Excellent communication skills. Positive, flexible, open-minded approach towards work assignments Good interpersonal skills with a natural ability to work with and support colleagues, ability to adapt to and work effectively with clients and co-workers with different styles and levels of technical knowledge Must be able to work in a team environment, as well as independently with minimal supervision and work well under pressure Good analytical, troubleshooting, debugging skills and proven ability to discern critical from minor problems. Ability to prioritize, manage, and handle multiple tasks at one time NICE-TO-HAVES: Visual Basic Experience with programming (Microsoft and Java) Demonstrated ability to work in teams with specific performance targets Application development and support experience within a publicly or privately-held utilities organization. ITIL v3 Foundation Certification Experience with formal methodologies, preferably with Fujitsu’s Macroscope Methodology, for Application Management and System Development.
