RN-PRN-Cancer Center Infusion
Summary: Performs the primary function of a Registered Professional Nurse in assessing, planning, implementing, educating, and evaluating a designated group of infusion patients in accordance with all established Nursing Standards and Hospital Policies. Is responsible for managing all assigned personal supplies, equipment in the Infusion Department, and for promoting teamwork with all members of the healthcare team. Performs duties and responsibilities in a manner consistent with our mission and values. Principle Accountabilities: % Time Spent 1.Acts as a patient liaison and advocate. (5%) 2.Assures proper documentation. (10)% a.Documents assessments b.Documents interventions 3.Participates in discharge planning. (5%) a.Identifies educational needs for patients b.Instructs and educates patients 4.Assures orders are processed as follows: (10%) a.Checks and enters orders via computer b.Accepts telephone orders from doctor's office 5.Makes initial and continuous patient assessment. (20%) a.Communicates the interpretation of lab data b.Consults with physician c.Reviews drug therapy d.Coordinates administration of treatments with other disciplines as needed 6.Coordinates all aspects of patient care, including planning, intervention, education, and evaluation: (25%) a.Develops, maintains, and applies age-specific knowledge relevant to the care of the patient population served. b.Performs IV insertions, troubleshooting and maintenance. c.Accesss/flushes infusaport/central line catheters d.Performs IV push medications and flushes. e.Initiates doctor's orders. f.Provides patient education in emergency care, IV home infusion and IV catheter maintenance. g.Provides patient education and/or printed information regarding special medications given. 7.Other procedures that the OP Infusion RN participates in: (15%) a.Administering chemotherapy. b.Declotting central line using TPA. c.Performing therapeutic phlebotomy. d.Discontinuing PICC's/Midlines. e.Performing venipunctures. f.Administering subcutaneous and intramuscular injections. g.Administration of IV medications. h.Administration of blood and blood products. 8.Performs clerical duties as needed. (5%) a. Makes appointments for patients with Physicians' standing/routine orders. b. Registration of all patients. c. Enters all charges. d. Orders and maintains supplies. e. Handles phone calls 9.Performs other work duties as assigned. (5%) a.Essential function of the job. b.Non-essential function of the job can be assigned to another employee. ___________ Total 100% SLH Required Experience: Capable of working to prescribed Hospital Policies and Nursing Standards. The Infusion Department of the Cancer Center will take into consideration the specific age-related needs of the patient. The Infusion Department may provide patient care to young adults over 18 years of age, adults and geriatric adults. Basic Life Support completion within three (3) months of hire. Chemo and ONS certification. JOB DUTIES REQUIRE YEARLY VALIDATION FOR COMPETENCY and YEARLY COMPLETION OF HOSPITAL SAFETY PROGRAM. PARTICIPATION IN A BLS CLASS IS REQUIRED EVERY TWO (2) YEARS Required Education: Current licensure as a Registered Professional Nurse in the State of Missouri. Compensation: Working Conditions: Employee is required to walk continuously and sit occasionally. Employee must lift/carry a light (1-20 lbs.) medium (21-50 lbs.) load occasionally and heavy (50 lbs. +) load frequently. Employee may be required to lift over 100 lbs. with assistance. Employee is frequently required to bend, squat, crawl, kneel, climb, lift waist to overhead. Employee is occasionally required to reach forward and reach overhead. For repetitive action, employee is required to use both hands for simple grasping and pushing/pulling. Employee is occasionally exposed to electrical hazards and CRT terminal work. Verbal and cognitive, as well as motor coordination and manual dexterity are required. Speech, hearing and near-visual acuity are required. May be needed to work any shift due to 24-hour day, seven (7) day per week operation. Employee is frequently exposed to blood borne pathogens. Employee will take call as determined by unit needs. (Occasionally: 1-33%, Frequently: 34-66%, Continuously: 67-100%) The most significant of duties are included but this does not exclude occasional work assignments not mentioned or developmental duties. Job Relationships: Member of a comprehensive healthcare team, including other healthcare providers, the patient, the patient's family, and significant others. Takes direction from: Head Nurse of Radiation Oncology & Supervisor, Infusion Department Director of Oncology Services Supervised by: Radiation Oncology Head Nurse & Supervisor - Infusion Department CERTAIN JOB DUTIES REQUIRE YEARLY VALIDATION FOR COMPETENCY, YEARLY PARTICIPATION IN PROGRAMS ON UNIVERSAL PRECAUTIONS, BLOOD BORNE PATHOGENS AND FIRE AND SAFETY ARE REQUIRED. PARTICIPATION IN A CPR CLASS IS REQUIRED EVERY TWO (2) YEARS.
