Internship with Conservatory - Special Education Music Classes
The Southern California Conservatory of Music (SCCM) is an independent, non-profit music school with a 40-plus year history of providing quality music instruction. A unique and integral part of our school is its FAME (Free Access to Music Education) program. FAME currently operates in several special education schools throughout Los Angeles, providing weekly music programs for students with a variety of disabilities, including visual impairment, autism spectrum disorders, developmental delays, and learning disabilities. The programs are centered around a curriculum of attentive music listening, active discussion, and musical games and interaction. Students are introduced to a wide variety of music including classical, jazz, pop, and traditional music from many countries and cultures. We are seeking applicants to fill a part-time paid internship position in our FAME program. Candidates may include music and music education students, education and special education students, and anyone seeking a rewarding experience working with a remarkable group of children and young adults. Our programs run throughout the school year, and will provide valuable experience working in both music and special education. Interns begin teaching in one school, once per week, for approximately 2 hours. Positions are currently open near Hollywood, West Adams, and Reseda. Pay begins at $50 per class. A music background is a plus, and an ability to play an instrument is a strong plus. Patience, a friendly disposition, and a passion for education are required. Please send a message and your resume to info(at)sccmusic(dot)com and visit sccmusic(dot)com to learn more about our school. Interviews will be conducted shortly as classes begin in late August.
