Communications Manager
The Factory Youth Zone is now recruiting for a Communications Manager, based in fantastic facilities in Harpurhey, North Manchester. The position is initially available on a 12 month fixed term contract with a possibility of then becoming a permanent position. The role is to develop, implement and report against a comprehensive communications and marketing strategy to ensure that the Factory Youth Zone identifies and engages with all of its key stakeholders. The Communications Manager will be responsible for developing and managing all communications and marketing activities within the Youth Zone. Working as part of a small, dedicated team which was set up in early 2012, the Communications Manager will be responsible for ensuring that The Factory Youth Zone fully engages its key stakeholders which include existing and potential members, volunteers and supporters/donors, using a wide variety of channels, particularly digital. The Communications Manager will manage and develop relationships with colleagues, pro bono external suppliers (e.g. marketing agency) and with ongoing input and guidance from OnSide (FYZ’s parent charity), will create and disseminate a wide range of communications and marketing materials both on- and off-line to support The Factory Youth Zone’s objectives. Skills and Experience Required • The successful candidate will be an enthusiastic, motivated communications professional, with strong digital communications/marketing skills and preferably with experience of working in the private and not-for-profit sectors. • They will have a relevant qualification (communications/marketing (digital or traditional)/PR degree) or equivalent experience. • An interest in/experience of youth work would be helpful. Candidates who have previously volunteered in any capacity are preferred. • At least 1 – 3 years in a communications role, preferably working across the private and third sectors (if not third sector experience, working creatively to deliver solutions in a department with limited budget is important). • Using a CMS (familiarity with Word Press an advantage) to manage a web site. • Copy writing and editing materials for a range of audiences • Using social media to deliver stakeholder engagement campaigns/projects. • Planning and evaluating digital and off-line media campaigns/projects. • Working with design packages (Adobe In Design/Photoshop/Illustrator). • Excellent digital communications skills. • Visual communications skills, i.e. some knowledge of using digital photography and films to support communications campaigns/projects would be an advantage A ground-breaking charity, The Factory Youth Zone is an iconic state-of-art Youth Zone, in the heart of North Manchester, attracting young people from across the city.
