Dynamic, Professional Non-Profit Seeks Part-Time Teen Programs Coordinator
Position Summary Under the Teen Program Manager’s supervision, the part-time Teen Programs Coordinator will support the delivery of Step Up’s Teen Programs, serving up to 200 high school age underserved girls from Chicago Public High Schools. The position is part-time (maximum 20 hours per week). The Coordinator will split time between the Step Up office and in the field at Step Up’s select partner high schools in Humboldt Park, the Loop, Old Irving Park and Englewood. Duties & Responsibilities After-School and Saturday Programming Support execution of programming, as directed by the Teen Program Manager, to reflect the Step Up mission and teen programs pillars. Support Teen Programs Manager in the creation and execution of recruitment events and strategies to attract and engage youth into Step Up teen programs. Assist Teen Program Manager with planning and execution of mid-program get-togethers, end of year program parties, end-of year showcases, and summer send-offs for respective programs highlighting teen program accomplishments for Step Up members, guests, Step Up girls and their family members. Coordinate and monitor summer internship program including overseeing over 20 internship pairings and their progress throughout the summer—this will include attending 6 monthly workshops and supporting the facilitation of learning objectives. Organize, manage, and chaperone to and from field trips and special events for teen participants and volunteers. Know and enforce Step Up program expectations, policies, and protocols. Assist in ensuring that Step Up branding is consistent across program sites. Coordinate teen participant transportation to special events as needed. Youth/Family/School Partner Relationship Building Develop relationships with all program participants, focusing on senior participants in monthly workshops. Develop relationships with Step Up school partner staff, including liaisons, teachers and student support staff. Assist in family/youth/instructor intervention on a case-by-case basis. Communicate with teen participants about special opportunities as needed. Communicate with program instructors and school staff about any schedule modifications or important behavioral or environmental issues. Volunteer Management Assist in volunteer appreciation and management, including directing and guiding after school and Saturday mentoring volunteers by ensuring that volunteer roles are open and available. Program Administration and Evaluation Collaborate with school staff and Step Up instructors across multiple sites to deliver activity reports; track attendance, behavior, and performance through accurate record keeping. Manage retention of teen participants in all programs. Maintain quality records of student attendance, and contribute to national Teen Programs evaluative database including updating statistics, case studies, etc. Administer program surveys to participants and teachers. Collaborate with school staff to collect report cards, diplomas, and relevant test scores. Compile case studies of students. Collect and manage data required by funding sources and for monitoring and evaluation purposes. Enter data into relevant databases and tracking systems, manage hard and soft program files and maintain updated records. Undertake and complete research assignments as requested. Provide logistical support for Step Up events. Complete additional tasks as required. Qualifications Education: BA in related field Bilingual English/Spanish strongly preferred Experience working with youth Sensitivity and experience working with ethnically diverse and underserved communities Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; teaching or public speaking experience/training is preferred Strong attention to detail and ability to deliver quality, professional work Demonstrated leadership and teamwork qualities Self-starter and fast-learner who does not require heavy supervision and copes well with change Ability to travel to multiple sites throughout Chicago Passion for women’s social issues and interest in providing quality educational, enriching experiences to girls Proficiency in Microsoft Office programs and the Internet Knowledge of the college admissions process Willingness to work some weekends and evenings Hours & Schedule This is a part-time position with the opportunity for the right candidate to become full-time Schedule is flexible depending on office and coordinator needs. Step Up office hours are 9-6, Monday-Friday This position is up to 20 hours a week including Saturday programming (one Saturday/month February-July, 9:30am-2:30pm) Keywords: Writing and editing
