Sheet Metal Prototype Craftsman-machinist Saint Joseph, MI Our West Michigan client is looking for a SHEET METAL PROTOTYPE CRAFTSMAN-MACHINIST to work in their modeling lab. This is a short term contract that could lead to a direct hire position for the right candidate. If you would like to help model innovative parts for future products while working as part of a team in a clean, professional, cutting edge facility, this is the job for you. You will be working from drawings and Pro/Engineer CAD models to obtain the dimensional information needed to produce parts. Designs will range from very simple to extremely complex. You will be machining small dies in order to form depressions required in many of the new designs using manual mills, lathes, and forming presses. Also, you will work on projects that require modifications to existing formed sheet metal components. This process requires craftsmanship and the ability to weld thin gauge materials. You may also be asked to take machining assignments that require close tolerances. Job Duties: Operate a wide range of equipment common to a model shop environment to create prototype parts to print. Including manual lathes, lathes, drills, presses, sheet metal benders etc. Work directly from drawings or CAD data to produce prototype components common to consumer appliances. Work with designers, engineers, and other model makers in a team concept, while contributing to a creative environment frequently under pressure of deadlines and heavy workload. Perform tasks common to maintaining equipment and inventory. Minimum Requirements: Thorough understanding of sheet metal craftsmanship Background working as a machinist Strong understanding of common model shop machinery/equipment Experience in referring to drawings including solid modeling CADD software Ability to use Microsoft Office and email applications Thorough knowledge of and ability to use/read basic hand and precision measuring tools Ability to lift and maneuver parts and materials up to 70 pounds from a standing or sitting position Ability to stand/sit for long periods of time Ideal Requirements: Journeymans certificate 8+ years of experience producing precision, high quality, prototype parts Previous experience accessing 3D CADD drawings & assemblies. Pro-Engineer/Pro-Manufacturing software experience a plus. Ability to weld thin gauge materials (MIG and TIG) Experience with CNC operation and/or programming
