Position Overview: The Data Modeler Analyst Level II position is in the Data Integration and Reporting organization located in the IT department. A Data Modeler gathers and transforms business and technical requirements into conceptual, logical and physical data models repositories. Position Responsibilities: Perform logical data modeling, physical data modeling (including reverse engineering) using the Erwin Data Modeling tool. Perform logical data model design including normalization/demoralization referential integrity, data domains, primary and foreign key assignments and data element definitions as applied to both relational and dimensional modeling. Ensure that the physical data model design includes standard database object names, referential integrity, appropriate constraints, foreign key assignments and consistent/appropriate use of surrogate keys and denormalization. Negotiate priorities and resolve requirement conflicts among various stakeholders Follow standards, procedures, and guidelines for abbreviations, acronyms, class words and naming standards and data model reviews. Position Requirements: 5 - 9+ years demonstrated analyst experience using modeling languages, technical product life cycle concepts and requirements engineering). Undergraduate College Degree or equivalent experience in Computer Technology Experience in FIPS 184 Integration Definition for Information Modeling (IDEF1X) is preferred, but experience with an alternative modeling notation such as Information Engineering (IE) is acceptable. Knowledge of and skill in applying: Microsoft Office Suite including Word, Excel. Data modeling experience with a strong emphasis on the design and development of conceptual, logical and physical data models using named industry standard tools such as Popkin, Computer Associate’s AllFusion Data Modeler (Erwin) or Sybase’s Power Designer. Such experience should include relational and dimensional modeling. Experience in the gathering, assimilation, organization, categorization and analysis of business requirements to create corresponding designs of logical and physical data models. Such tasks may include client interviews and/or facilitating Joint Application Development (JAD) sessions. Experience in deriving physical data models from a logical data model as well as reverse engineering a physical data model from a physical database. Experience in FIPS 184 Integration Definition for Information Modeling (IDEF1X) is preferred, but experience with an alternative modeling notation such as Information Engineering (IE) is acceptable. Ability to conduct data modeling sessions with business users and technical staff, which includes conveying complex ideas both verbally and in written form. Demonstrates an understanding of database management system administration with regard to performance, configuration and denormalization. Sufficient to: Communicate with a wide variety of technical and business experts in both individual and group settings using email and presentations. Negotiate priorities and resolve requirement conflicts among various stakeholders Follow standards, procedures, and guidelines for abbreviations, acronyms, class words and naming standards and data model reviews Additional Requirements: Carry out assigned tasks with a professional demeanor reflected in excellent written and oral communication skills, listening skills, patience, analytical reasoning and problem solving abilities Ability to partner closely with and communicate effectively with both non-technical Business SME’s, and technical core team members at the appropriate level of detail Ability to communicate technical information verbally and in writing to technical and non-technical users Ability to facilitate effective meetings with business and technical personnel Ability to drive the project participants and stakeholders toward collective understanding of data issues, to facilitate effective team decision-making related to relevant data structures, and to document results. In addition to standard data modeling duties, ability to lead effort to ensure system test data is loaded accurately and in timely manner Assist Business SME’s and data stewards to review and “scrub” their data in a timely manner and perform data audits, as necessary Assist document data flow diagrams, entity relationship diagrams and other project deliverables, as requested. Assist project team to trouble-shoot “data issues” as they arise during testing cycles. Ability to meet timelines, milestones, deliverables and provide timely (weekly) status updates to manager and project manager, as requested. Provide a sustainable IT infrastructure by supplying cross training and functional documentation Understand and follow established processes and procedures including Change Management, Work Tracking and Time Management. NOTE: This position may be eligible for situational offsite work, subject to the completion of a Supplemental Labor Offsite Work Memorandum of Understanding.
