Internship in Architect Department in Awaiting Eyes Foundation
The Awaiting Eyes Foundation is a not-for-profit organisation raising awareness, aid and funds on behalf of children affected by the earthquake in Pakistan, which left almost 300 children orphaned in the North-East mountain area of Mahildara and Bani Minhasan. For our new project, building a hospital in Pakistan, we are looking for architects, who would like to do an internship in our office in North London. The architect is responsible for the designing of the orphanage and hospital projects. Working closely with the material estimator, architect assistant, and interior and landscape designers. Ensuring that works are carried out to specific standards and, above all, ensuring that the building is sustainable, functional and aesthetically pleasing. RESPONSIBILITIES: 1. Discussing the objectives, requirements and budget of a project; 2. Consulting with other professionals about the design of an environment; 3. Preparing and presenting feasibility reports and design proposals to the client; 4. Advising the client on the practicality of their project; 5. Assisting in site selection; 6. Using IT in design and project management 7. Negotiating with contractors and other professionals; 8. Preparing applications for planning and building control departments. 9. Regular site visits to check on progress, ensuring that the project is running on time and to budget; 10. Resolving problems and issues that arise during construction; 11. Ensuring that the environmental impact of the project is limited. KNOWLEDGE AND SKILL : 1. An RIBA-approved degree. 2. Good design and drawing skills; 3. A strong imagination and the ability to think and create in three dimensions; 4. Good analytical skills, accuracy and attention to detail; 5. A keen interest in buildings and the built environment; 6. Excellent communication skills, written and oral, with the ability to liaise effectively with a range of other professionals; 7. Good organisational and negotiation skills; 8. Strong team working and leadership skills; 9. An understanding about the relationship between people, buildings and the wider environment; 10. Reasonable mathematical skills; 11. Project management skills; 12. Excellent IT skills, including computer-aided design skills, such as AutoCAD Candidate must be available to volunteer for at least a minimum of 3 days per week.
