TECHNICAL SKILLS: - Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related field, or the equivalent experience in a production Database Administration role. - Broad experience in Microsoft SQL Server database management software products and the use of those products in application development. - Oracle experience is a plus. - Strong technical writing skills. - Strong LAN skills, including Microsoft Windows Server administration. - AIX, HP-UX and Linux experience a plus. SOFT SKILLS: - Excellent analytical abilities and troubleshooting skills - Ability to develop effective working relationships with workers at all levels of FirstEnergy Corp - Ability to deliver quality, accurate work within established deadlines Superior written and verbal communication skills. - Ability to work effectively in a team environment and on concurrent assignments. ENVIRONMENT: - Maintain technical vendor software using engineering releases from the manufacturer. - Provide problem resolution support services. - Be actively involved in the design and development of software to supplement product capabilities. - Apply a comprehensive knowledge of the interrelationships of hardware and database management technology. - Provide and maintain reliable Microsoft SQL Server databases to support FirstEnergy business applications. - Oracle assignments as appropriate. - Implement, monitor and administer FirstEnergy Microsoft SQL Server databases, including writing and enhancing scripts. - Manage backup and recovery functions for FirstEnergy Microsoft SQL Server databases. Oracle assignments as appropriate. - Perform system administration, performance and storage monitoring, system backup and recovery functions. - Perform database migrations from Microsoft SQL Server to Microsoft SQL Server or Oracle. Support system utilities and tools. - Recommend improvements to strategy, application usage and process. - Investigate and resolve application problems. - May involve extra hours to meet project and maintenance needs. - Required to carry a pager and be available for call out (on-call) duty and support.
