Assistant Web Specialist
Durham College is seeking a part-time Assistant Web Specialist for Communications + Marketing. The incumbent will work 24 hours per week at a rate of $ 20.00 per hour. Reporting to the Director of Communications + Marketing, the Assistant Web Specialist is responsible for assisting the Web team with the development and maintenance of the communications and marketing presence on the Web for Durham College. This includes responsibility for administrative web pages. This diversified responsibility can include, creating, collecting, organizing, designing, formatting, programming, developing, maintaining, and troubleshooting web pages and digital marketing material. The Assistant Web Specialist ensures web pages are accessible, cohesive, perform effortlessly, navigate successfully, and fulfill the mission and vision of the College in areas such as student recruitment, donor relations, and internal and external relations. DUTIES: · Develop and maintain the college’s official web pages by creating current, attractive, engaging, informative and user-friendly communications and marketing materials and images, using the college’s CMS. Database/design programming. · Maintain and uphold the institutional web guidelines and policies through monitoring of the site. Review all information and images appearing on the sites. Edit or remove if deemed to be non-compliant with Web Guidelines, detrimental or damaging to the College, or inaccessible to those with special needs. · Project lead on web-based projects or other multi-media opportunities for the college i.e. co-ordination and scheduling of graphics, multi-media and programming as required for such projects. · Remain apprised of computer, network, multi-media and other electronic media by researching the Internet, Internet publications, participating in workshops and conferences, and through consultation with external representatives, artists, suppliers, etc. Constantly upgrade knowledge and skills with regards to web development tools including browsers, software, graphic design, etc. and advise Director of Communications + Marketing of opportunities, related costs and possible benefits. · Assist the Director of Communications + Marketing with publications and promotions, both print and electronic, through digital photography and web-based applications. Advise on and develop web and other electronic methods of communications for the college community to replace printed materials or manual tasks, reduce costs and improve efficiency. · Administer the Content Management System (CMS), train users and act as an ongoing resource to faculty and staff. · Co-ordinate projects with coworkers and other departments (ex. ITS) to establish technical design and needed resources. · Review, administer and train users of web statistics tracking software. Recommend appropriate action based on statistical evaluation QUALIFICATIONS: · Two year College diploma in Web, Multimedia or Computer Science. · Minimum of one year with some experience in the field along with formal specialized technical training and background in advanced Web page development, design, maintenance, standards, practices, coding, conventions, electronic publishing and Internet marketing to support institutional objectives and strategies. · Proven computer skills and advanced knowledge of WordPress, HTML, PHP, MYSQL, JavaScript, XML, Photoshop, Illustrator, Flash, JQuery. · Knowledge and experience in marketing, given the Web’s marketing potential and opportunities. · Knowledge of the post-secondary education sector, particularly the mission and operation of a college and/or university. · Experience and creativity in Web page layout and design, including knowledge of accessibility, user experience, colour and design theory, graphic design techniques, and Web development software. · Must have a thorough knowledge of how these applications are best applied to the Web and how these techniques vary between browsers and computers, and how they impact persons with special needs. · Ability to juggle multiple projects, sometimes confidential in nature, on deadlines. · Superior skills in time and project management teamwork, initiative, problem solving, and attention to details.
