Kforce is seeking a Senior Linux Administrator for a Boston, Massachusetts client. This is a Full Time position. Our client is seeking an experienced Senior Linux / UNIX System Administrator to support Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) IT Systems hosted at the Volpe National Transportation Systems Center in Cambridge, Massachusetts. FMCSA IT systems comprise our nation's interstate motor carrier registration, safety, and performance monitoring infrastructure. The successful candidate will provide hands-on system expertise for Linux Systems and applications while troubleshooting issues as needed. This position requires the ability to 'hit the ground running' within a complex environment, in cooperation with the existing team. An excellent work ethic and dedication to ensuring a system quality are expected, as are the ability and willingness to work 'off hours' to include evenings and weekends as needed to support periodic system deployment and issue remediation activities. Utilize the Following Each Day: Experience documenting and managing infrastructure configurations and changes Experience working with regulated systems under US Federal Government rules Experience identifying and remediating system security vulnerabilities per NIST SP 800-53 or equivalent Experience with Oracle database backup and restore approaches and techniques Experience with LDAP and role-based system access controls Excellent teamwork and communication skills are required as well as the ability to diagnose complex problems, and communicate solutions; in-person and remotely via email. Organizational skills are also key traits, especially the ability to maintain personal discipline within a rapid-paced, dynamic environment. Education and Experience: A Bachelor's Degree or equivalent combination of education and experience with the Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Management Information Systems, or related field being preferred Eight or more years of technical experiences in a client-server environment using UNIX, AIX, Solaris, Linux, and Oracle Requirements of Essential Job Functions: Self-starter with outstanding Linux System administration skills Strong analytical and problem solving skills Strong communication skills; oral and written Experience working with highly complex system implementations and organizational processes Ability to quickly integrate with existing high-performance team Schedule flexibility for potential night or weekend deployments A minimum five years of experience supporting a production environment Required: Ability to work from home without undue distraction, to support late night or emergency operations Excellent communication skills, covering both technical and customer communications 4-6 years of experience supporting complex infrastructure environments Experience scheduling and deploying vendor system patches Desired: Experience providing technical leadership to 4-6 infrastructure professionals Experience working across multi-vendor infrastructure teams in customer facilities Experience with ServiceNow, FrontRange Solutions' HEAT, Borland StarTeam, Apache Subversion Experience with formal configuration management and change control of infrastructure configuration items A minimum of an H1-B VISA is required
