Cnc Craftsman-machinist (plastics) Saint Joseph, MI Our West Michigan client is looking for a CNC Craftsman-Machinist to work in their lab. This is a short term contract that could lead to a direct hire position for the right candidate. If you would like to work as part of a team in a clean, professional, cutting edge facility to help model innovative, high-quality parts for future products, this is the job for you. Job Duties: Today, you might be working on a manual mill or lathe producing components common to consumer appliances using a variety of materials. You will be working from drawings and Pro/Engineer CAD models to get the dimensional information needed to produce the parts. Designs will range from simple to the most complex. Tomorrow, you will be working on conversational type CNC controlled machines producing more complex parts and small dies. You may need to create programs at the controller or by the using CAM software. You may also be working on the modification to complex plastic components. This may require machining a new component and then welding it into an existing part. This process requires craftsmanship and the ability to weld plastics. Requirements: Ability to work directly from drawings or CAD data to produce prototype components. Ability to work with designers, engineers, and other model makers in a team concept, while contributing to a creative environment frequently under pressure of deadlines and heavy workload. Operate a wide range of equipment common to a model shop environment. Perform tasks common to maintaining equipment and inventory. What You Need To Succeed: A Journeymans certificate in this trade or a minimum of 8 years of experience and knowledge in producing precision, high quality, prototype parts is desired. Ability to operate a wide range of equipment common to a model shop environment to create prototype parts to print. Including manual lathes, lathes, drills, presses, sheet metal benders etc. The candidate must have excellent interpersonal communication skills to interact with designers, engineers and other corporate model shops. Capability of programming and operating CNC equipment is a must. Capability of fabricating components with various types of plastics is a desired. This would include welding, adhering, and forming plastic materials. Capability of welding MIG and TIG is a plus. Ability to lift and maneuver parts and materials up to 70 pounds from a standing or sitting position. Long periods of standing/sitting may be required. Good vision and a thorough knowledge of basic hand and precision measuring tools are required. Software Experience Needed: Pro Engineer or other 3D CAD software desired CNC programming software. Microsoft Office and email.
