Workshop / Production Manager (Joinery)
My client is a successful business based in the North East of England. As a result of business demands, a manager is required for our busy joinery workshop producing high quality, cost competitive joinery fabrications for the retail sector. This will be initially for a period of 6 months but may result in a permanent opportunity. The Role Reporting to the KAP (Key Account Person / Manager) Direct reports – Workshop Supervisor and Team Leader To manage the Workshop operation in the production of bespoke joinery products for the retail sector Liaise with customers / clients, suppliers and designers and product developers (both internally and externally) Organise and prioritise workload and projects within the Workshop Department ensuring customer requirements and deadlines are achieved Set goals, targets and KPI’s for the department and direct reports Make certain that production procedures and processes are in place to ensure the effective and efficient running of the Workshop Department. Ensure that effective product quality checks are in place and carried out by reviewing, revising and introducing, as required, procedures and processes to underpin this practice Ensure that Health, Safety and Environmental legislation and procedures are adhered to To engage fully in the management of the Workshop Team and support the Workshop Supervisor and Team Leader in areas of staff management including: recruitment, performance management, staff development, disciplinary and all other staff related issues Responsible for capacity planning, material sourcing and the development of efficient and up-to-date production procedures As and when required conduct surveys, visit client sites and supervise installations as required - some travel and overnight stays maybe required to fulfil aspects of this role Produce weekly and monthly reports to demonstrate cost control, delivery, quality, project hour’s accrual. All other duties as directed by the line manager / department manager Experience & Qualifications The successful candidate will have comprehensive experience of production management ideally within a joinery workshop environment coupled with a robust understanding of joinery practice and materials this would be preferably demonstrated with the achievement of a Workshop Joinery qualification Experience of delivering to strict deadlines whilst ensuring product quality at all times Experience and proven track record in setting goals, targets, KPI’s, monitoring & measuring departmental performance and production controls accompanied by experience of revising, creating and implementation of production procedures would be an advantage Ideally but not essential,candidates will have undertaken recognised H&S training e.g. IOSH Working Safely or similar It is essential that the successful candidate has strong organisational and communication skills with a working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Outlook and Excel
