Our client in Chapel Hill, NC has an immediate need for a Part-Time System Administrator! Job Description The primary purpose of this position is to support the client’s Technology Services infrastructure as a system administrator.  The part-time system administrator will help manage around 30 client Linux, VMware, and Windows servers.  Responsibilities include OS setup, configuration, documentation, system update and backup management, and maintenance and improvement of system security, troubleshooting hardware and software issues, application installation and configuration, system monitoring, and performance tuning and occasional end-user support and training as needed. Experience •    Five year of experience performing system administration of Linux systems is required •    Bachelor’s degree in a related field is preferred.  Four year of directly related work experience may be substituted for degree requirements. Skills •    Must have in-depth knowledge of Linux and Windows operating systems, Apache web server software, MySQL database systems, and knowledge of best practices for implementing strong computer system software and hardware security. •    Knowledge of VMware and KVM server virtualization technologies and server monitoring systems such as Nagios and Zenoss would be helpful. •    Experience with troubleshooting hardware in a TCP/IP environment. •    Ability to diagnose server failures and software incompatibilities. •    Strong verbal and written communication skills. •    Must be organized and detail oriented. •    Must have a team player attitude. •    Ability to interact with all levels of an organization in a professional, diplomatic, and tactful manner. •    Ability to take ownership of plans, tasks, and daily activities and adapt to unanticipated changes and follow through tasks to completion.
