Description The DBA (Database Administrator) will monitor and maintain the integrity, security, and availability of the organization's SQL Server databases in an optimal fashion. This individual will have operational responsibility for development, test, and production environments with the IT Department as the primary customer. One of primary responsibilities of this position is to schedule, verify, and audit the backups of the databases. In addition, the DBA will conduct performance monitoring and troubleshooting using the built-in tools and with a working understanding of execution plans. Disk space usage and growth needs to be monitored to assist with capacity planning which could involve moving databases between servers or recommending hardware upgrades. While development and data analysis is not a responsibility, strong knowledge of T-SQL in regards to creating triggers, stored procedures, functions, and scripting is important. This position does not include networking or system administration of Windows, SharePoint, or Exchange servers. In addition, data analysis, reporting, data modeling, and application development are not primary focuses either. The person applying for this position must have a high attention to detail yet be able to see the large picture to understand the impact of changes and activities across systems. He or she must be able to communicate clearly including proper grammar and spelling. This person will be operating as the sole DBA therefore must be self-reliant and able to think through and resolve issues without constant management direction. Strong organization skills are required to document procedures and issue resolutions for backup DBA coverage. This position also has exposure to HIPAA data and therefore a track record of integrity is also necessary.
