Construction Manager
Construction Manager - Gravesham, Kent - Fixed Term Contract 40 weeks - £30k to 37k Description: Construction Manager for Gravesham Borough Council, Gravesend Kent to carry out duties on a range of projects as part of the Capital Works and cyclical works programme and for projects as may be required. This requirement is on a fixed term contract basis for a period of 40 weeks. You will ensure that all construction, maintenance, refurbishments and repair works to buildings and property including grounds are carried out in accordance with legislation, specifications, contract documentation and industry best practice on behalf of the company. Main responsibilities: *To ensure the contractor has safe systems of work in operation during all works on site and that all operations are carried out under the Health and Safety at Work act are observed and strictly adhered to by the contractor. *To report on and monitor Health and Safety compliance. *To agree with the contractor appropriate site set up and location of welfare facilities. *To develop effective working relationships with contractor and client groups and other members of the project team. *To carry out inspections and tests of the works to ensure that it is to the required quality, specification and contract and meets legislative requirements. *This may include, but not limited to construction and work sites, reported defects within the defects liability period, or suspected latent defects. *To keep accurate records, provide weekly reports and deal with documentation. *To carry out snagging inspections and sign off and arrange, carry out and sign off end of defects liability period inspections. *To assist in design consultation, specification and reviews and the exploration of new product methods and practices. *To attend training and CPD events in order to remain fully informed of latest practices and legislation. To participate as required in the companies Emergency Planning Operations which may involve duties outside the post holder's normal job description and contracted hours. *In the event that an incident has occurred which disrupts the council's ability to deliver it's critical functions, the post holder will be expected to participate in the recovery stage which may include undertaking duties within the post holder's competencies in other departments and/or at other locations. *A commitment and contribution to the Companies Equal Opportunities Policy is an essential requirement of the post. *The post holder will carry out all duties and activities having regard to the provisions of the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974. *The post holder will comply with Statute and Company Policy in all respects. An awareness and commitment to section 17 which places a statutory duty on police and local authorities to work in partnership to reduce crime and promote community safety. *It is also required that community safety is to be a thread running through all functions of the LA A commitment to excellent customer service and the values of the Council Qualifications & Experience: *Excellent working knowledge of building regulations and extensive knowledge of the construction industry and sites. *HNC Building Construction OR Extensive and exceptional relevant experience or other equivalent qualification in building construction. CSCS/SMSTS trained. *Post qualification experience in the construction industry Supervision of contractors Supervision of staff, Experience of delivering a project. Working in a Local Authority/ Social Housing environment Special Conditions: *Full driving licence and use of car to carry out duties Commitment to Equal Opportunities.
