Job Description Executive Director - Design For Lean Six Sigma (DFLSS) Basking Ridge, NJ The Operational Excellence and Process Transformation (OEPT) organization is designed to improve the value Verizon delivers to its customers, employees and shareowners by identifying and implementing process improvements that will create a more efficient, effective and agile company. The Executive Director - Design for Lean Six Sigma (DFLSS) has the responsibility and accountability for the effective implementation of DFLSS and the achievement of desired results of cross functional business units initiatives across Verizon. This individual works at an enterprise level to define the expectations and operating systems while working directly with the executive staff and business/functional Lean Six Sigma leaders to coordinate the timely implementation of DFLSS projects and deliver the most optimal design/development solutions. The Executive Director will be recognized as the ultimate authority in DFLSS and a thought leader on how to execute complex projects across the business. S/he brings a wide variety of experience in implementing DFLSS methodologies, techniques to continually reach a higher level of engineering performance. The major activities of the position include but not limited to: * Develop the overall DFLSS project execution strategy for cross business projects, including planning and approval of resource allocations and deployment strategy * Proactively support and lead the deployment of ongoing Lean Six Sigma efforts in harmony with the overall business plan * Consult with senior business leaders to develop overarching project prioritization framework (e.g. project recognition, prioritization criteria, and a project definition process) creating impactful results * Create tollgates for project approval and create an integrated project review process * Develop synergy between various business product launches including Marketing, IT, Network, Finance and HR * Develop best practices, techniques, procedures and tools and other design improvement solutions across the enterprise * Conceptualize cross business projects and obtain consensus from Business leaders for implementation * Proactively develop strong relationships with executive business leaders, management and other key stakeholders to effectively resolve issues, articulate Lean Six Sigma approach and select appropriate methods to solve problems * Strong project management expertise to supervise complex project execution and including developing criteria for project closures and hand offs * Hold focused DFLSS reviews with Lean Six Sigma Leadership Team to assess progress against the effective application of DFLSS methodology * Create linkage/improvements to existing design gates, product launches including system integration processes and procedures * Executive consultant on business process excellence and challenge conventional wisdom by demonstrating successful application of new methodologies to improve product design quality * Interact with employees at all levels of the organization including senior executive business unit leaders, business level Lean Six sigma leaders and Champions as well as external consultants * Lead a team of experienced management level DFLSS Master Black Belts * Provide analysis and feedback to senior management on improvements and savings Required Skills & Experience * Bachelor of Science in a technical field, degree in Engineering preferred * Graduate degree highly desirable * Minimum 10 years experience as a Design for Six Sigma (DFSS) Master Black Belt * Design for Six Sigma (DFSS) Master Black Belt Certification * Demonstrated complex program management and/or P&L experience * Proven experience in DFLSS deployment and project execution for large scale complex programs * Strong design background in product design, system/solution design and/or IT design is desired * Broad experience in manufacturing, engineering, customer relationships, marketing, sales and/or supply management * Proven record of performance and trusted professional credibility * Excellent interpersonal and communication skills * Strong quantitative and problem solving skills * Strong meeting facilitation skills * Desire to drive change and improve existing processes and standards Industry: Telecommunications-operations
