Lead Unix/Linux Engineer
Lead/Supervisor Linux/UNIX Engineer – Germantown, MD Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Provides system management and administration support consisting of proprietary and COTS hardware and software networked via global terrestrial and RF/satellite communications equipment in support of critical 24x7 operations. Provides services to FBCB2/CECOM business partners and information technology professionals (to include third party support contractors) in the following areas: Ensure 99.95% system uptime and network availability Provides technical leadership and support to the NOC support staff in troubleshooting problems and addressing network outages Perform first-level problem isolation and root-cause analysis, and escalate as required. Perform real-time system monitoring, traffic tracking, and trend analysis using network Management Tools (e.g.: EM7, NITRO, CiscoWorks, WhatsUp Gold), UNIX scripts and command lines, and Cisco IOS commands. Assists the NOC support staff in composing accurate, informative, and timely network outage notifications, maintenance window notifications, and other customer correspondence Perform change control by monitoring and verifying all network changes against approved change requests. Log, track, and update every incident through satisfactory closure via SDE Remedy. Document all technical functions and NOC procedures Ability to generate system monitoring, management, and performance reports using proprietary and standard COTS tools. Ability to write Shell/Perl scripts to automate daily and operational activities. Execute backup and recovery plans to meet corporate standards. Requirements: 6+ years of Linux/Unix Administration and/or Engineering Experience Red Hat Certification preferred OR CCNA, CCSP, etc. 2+ years of Management or Supervisory Experience DoD Active Secret Clearance or the Ability to Obtain a clearance.
