Principal Pipeline Engineer
Description This position report to the Manager of Pipeline Engineering and is a critical role responsible for insuring the quality and accuracy of engineering designs, repairs and maintenance. The role requires an individual to have both strong utility experience and the ability to work and communicate effectively. Responsibilities Demonstrate by personal action a 100% commitment to employee and public safety. Responsible for engineering high-pressure gas transmission facilities, which include gas pipelines, metering facilities and gas transmission pipeline service extensions. Ensure all engineering designs meet applicable codes and CLIENT gas standards. Develop and maintain a high level of expertise in gas transmission pipeline design, maintenance and operations. Create and foster a safety first work environment. Demonstrate by personal action and a 100% commitment to employee and public safety. Ensure that employees are given proper safety training and equipment. Ensure that all safety requirements are met, and that employees are held accountable for safety performance. Ensure public and employee safety by ensuring that all job designs are performed according to standards and meet compliance requirements. Participate in industry committees such as PRCI, AGA, INGAA, and ASME B31.8, to facilitate R&D activates as it relates to pipeline engineering, construction and maintenance. Responsible of managing the Quality Control and Quality Assurance of the custom design process for pipeline engineering designs. Facilitate solutions to complex issues, involving many interrelated elements, and requiring considerations not previously encountered. Work effectively with key stakeholders including Technical Teams, QA/QC, Work Methods and Procedures Implementation team, Regulatory Compliance and Support, Process Safety, subject matter experts and the Gas Operations organization overall to insure that standards and procedures and implementation of appropriate controls are designed into all engineering products. Coordinate with all the subject matter experts within Pipeline Engineering and facilitate the development of the subject matter experts. Provide expert engineering advice for materials and construction techniques used in the design and construction of gas transmission pipeline systems. Maintain and make improvement to tools for engineering analysis such as PStess, RString and MAOP calculations. Demonstrate expert knowledge of the Federal Department of Transportation (DOT) 49CFR Part 192 regulations, governing the transportation of natural gas. Explore and implement innovative solutions that will allow Pipeline Engineering to improve quality, production and efficiency within a safe work environment. Complete the work planned for the organization in the most cost effective manner. Ensure that excellence is the standard by which all work within the organization is evaluated.
