Volunteer needed to provide support to charity's communication department
Why we need you: The Campaign to End Loneliness is a coalition of organisations and individuals working together through research, policy, campaigning and innovation to combat loneliness and inspire individuals to keep connected in older age. The Campaign was launched in February 2011, and is led by five organisations: Age UK Oxfordshire, Independent Age, Manchester City Council, Sense and WRVS. We have 350 organisational and individual supporters across the UK. A year after its launch, we are continuing to grow in profile and supporters numbers. With a series of local campaigns and other projects starting in April this year we are looking for someone to provide some communications support once a week or once a fortnight (if the role is shared) to our 3 members of staff. This support will be vital in helping us to directly assist older people who are experiencing loneliness, better support current and new campaigners, and raise awareness of the issue of loneliness in older age across the UK. Main responsibilities: • Respond to new supporters and enquiries • Research and respond to requests for help, over the telephone or by email, sign-posting to appropriate support • One-off administrative tasks that support our small team, e.g. database management, uploading website content or helping with large mail-outs • Optional: supporting the Campaign with social media and blogging Your interests and our needs may change as we get to know each other, so these responsibilities may change. Skills and personal attributes needed: • Good interpersonal skills, able to provide empathetic and professional support over the phone or by email • Good communications skills (written and verbal) • Competent in using Microsoft Outlook and Word • Confident in conducting online research into local support or services • An interest in improving quality of life for older people • An interest in campaigning for social change What you’ll gain: Volunteers will receive a comprehensive induction and on-going support from a member of staff, who will help them develop skills and resolve any problems. In addition, volunteers will have the opportunity to: • Get involved with a new and dynamic campaign • Help those suffering from loneliness, or looking for help for others both directly and indirectly • Where appropriate or possible, develop and expand your volunteering role so that you can gain new experiences or skills, and spend time on tasks that you enjoy the most • There may be an opportunity to receive external training in listening an communicating with vulnerable adults Keywords: Work, Charity, Volunteer
