Linux System Administrator
Experis' The Linux Administrators role is to design, install, administer, and optimize company Linux servers and related infrastructure to achieve high performance of the various business applications supported by tuning the Linux hardware/software environment as necessary. This includes ensuring the availability of client/server applications, configuring all new implementations, and developing processes and procedures for ongoing management of the environment. Where applicable, the Linux Administrator will assist in overseeing the physical security, integrity, and safety of the data center/server farm. Position Summary Responsible for the installation, configuration, patching, upgrades, maintenance and troubleshooting of server hardware, operating systems, storage, software and utilities in a large enterprise environment. Additional responsibilities include user account management, performance monitoring and tuning, data backup and recovery, and disaster recovery. Participation on projects is focused on smoothing the transition of projects from development staff to production staff by performing operations activities within the project life- cycle. This individual is accountable for managing both physical and virtual Red Hat Enterprise Linux farms under VmWare. Selected candidate will be working as a part of a team but will take ownership of supporting selected managed hosting solutions, monitoring, troubleshooting & resolving faults as they occur & within agreed SLAs. Responsibilities include; ensuring that all customer facing and internal company services are running satisfactorily, analyzing alerts highlighted in monitoring systems, handling support escalations from clients & handling any other service affecting faults that may need attention. Responsibilities Install new / rebuild existing servers and configure hardware, peripherals, services, settings, directories, storage, etc. in accordance with standards and project/operational requirements. Develop and maintain installation and configuration procedures. Perform daily system monitoring, verifying the integrity and availability of all hardware, server resources, systems and key processes, reviewing system and application logs, and verifying completion of scheduled jobs such as backups. Perform daily backup operations, ensuring all required file systems and system data are successfully backed up to the appropriate media, recovery tapes or disks are created, and media is recycled and sent off site as necessary. Perform regular file archival and purge as necessary. Create, change, and delete user accounts per request. Provide on and off hour support per request from various constituencies. Investigate and troubleshoot issues. Repair and recover from hardware or software failures. Coordinate and communicate with impacted constituencies. Apply OS patches and upgrades on a regular basis, and upgrade administrative tools and utilities. Configure / add new services as necessary. Maintain operational, configuration, or other procedures. Perform periodic performance reporting to support capacity planning. Perform ongoing performance tuning, hardware upgrades, and resource optimization as required. Configure CPU, memory, and disk partitions as required. Maintain data center environmental and monitoring equipment. Strong troubleshooting & support skills essential. Troubleshoots and resolves system service issues and OS level issues. Interface with internal resources to bring escalated issues to resolution
