Position Overview: AJWS is seeking to hire a Senior Direct Mail Officer for a six month contract. Reporting to AJWS’s Associate Director of Development, the Officer’s primary responsibilities are to ensure that AJWS’s direct marketing fundraising targets are met and to manage AJWS’s direct mail and online fundraising efforts. To meet AJWS’s fundraising target, the Officer works closely with the Associate Director of Development to manage the acquisition and retention of donors whose annual gifts are less than $1,000. In addition, (s)he ensures growth targets are achieved at competitive acquisition costs and presents regular reports to the Associate Director of Development and other senior staff on fundraising progress toward goal achievement and the effectiveness of AJWS’s marketing efforts. (S)he helps manage list selection and solicitation methods, helps oversee the development of solicitation and fulfillment materials, and coordinates appeal, renewal/reinstatement, acknowledgement and stewardship mailings. (S)he works closely with members of the Communications Department to develop AJWS’s online messaging calendar and online content that is consistent with mail messaging. (S)he ensures that data is shared between online and off-line systems. Key Responsibilities: To oversee the management of AJWS’s donor database, the Officer works closely with the Database Administrator to establish, monitor and enforce operational standards, systems and procedures that ensure data and revenue reporting integrity; In addition, (s)he helps oversee accurately pulled data from Raiser’s Edge for all solicitation mailings, acknowledgment and cultivation mailings, use in cooperative databases, omission from acquisition efforts, and any other use needed to execute AJWS’s direct marketing calendar; (S)he partners with the Database Administrator to create and maintain custom reports needed to evaluate fundraising performance, including: weekly mail and online response reports; donor “snapshot” reports to track movement of donors within the database; $1,000+ analysis and zip code analysis reports and return on investment reports at the macro as well as individual list level; (S)he works with the Database Administrator to assist database users in the most efficient and effective use of the system; coaching and troubleshooting as needed. Qualifications: BA/BS degree, or equivalent work experience required, an advanced degree (preferred); 3+ years experience in data/information management and report generation with a proven track record of accuracy, efficiency and dependability in data entry required. High level of proficiency on Raiser's Edge database (required); Strong understanding of direct marketing with an ability to enhance the effectiveness of the function (required); Previous experience in a Development office within a non-profit organization (required); Previous experience creating reports utilizing advanced functions and formulas in Excel (required); Proven ability to convey concepts and procedures in a training situation (preferred); Organized and detail oriented; Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines; Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously; Ability to prioritize key projects; Ability to work proactively, take initiative and work independently.
