Technical Engineer - Linux, VMware, Windows Birmingham 3 days a week, 2 weeks rolling contract - £negotiable rates on offer My client is a UK leading organisation that is currently seeking a Technical Engineer to join an existing hosting team that is responsible for ensuring that IT Services achieve high levels of availability and reliability. As a Technical Engineer you will be required to support systems and associated tools which facilitate continuous proactive monitoring of customers systems but also aid in the delivery of software into production. KEY SKILLS • Ideally 3+ years of Linux systems experience • Ideally 3+ years of Microsoft systems experience • Ideally 3+ years of VMware ESX experience • PHP and Perl Scripting • Experienced with network topologies including firewalls, switches, load balancers • Good understanding of database and web server technologies such as MS SQL, Tomcat and Apache • Knowledge of helpdesk processes • Able to work unsupervised and to tight deadlines while still preserving excellence RESPONSIBILITIES • Provide Linux support to and on behalf of Technical and Hosting Services • Develop and improve scripts based on PHP, Perl and Java • Linux administration skills • Maintain Apache and Tomcat servers • Assist with the maintenance and control of virtual environments which are based around VMware ESX but also physical Windows Servers • Ensure that servers are kept up to date in terms of patches and service packs with particular emphasis on security fixes Candidates must have excellent verbal/written communication skills, able to work in a team environment or individually when required.
