Health & Safety Officer - 9 month Assignment
We are looking for a H&S Advisor in Birmingham to lead and proactively promote a positive health and safety environment, and provide working health & safety legislative support to all relevant managers assisting them to comply with their legal health & safety obligations. In addition, provide an advisory service to all members of personnel on all health & safety issues. This is a fixed term contract for 6-9 months. Advise Senior and local Management of health & safety issues, ensuring legal compliance on health and safety issues whilst providing value for money by using such techniques as cost benefit analysis. In addition, advise senior and local management on policy issues and all staff on day to day health and safety matters and risk minimization strategies to ensure legal compliance and accident/incident reduction The Jobholder will require: In depth knowledge of European and UK Health and Safety legislation and its practical application within a policing community and public service environment. Knowledge of civil law and key case decisions leading to legal precedents and compensatory claims. In depth knowledge of building and H&S technical standards. Ability to undertake legal, scientific and technical research including the production reports or papers for peer review publication if required. Effective oral and written communication skills and the ability to influence people at all levels positively. The ability to deputise as required for Head of Wellbeing when required. The ability to operate and advise senior managers including Area Commanders whilst under the pressure of service constraints to drive transformational H&S climate and culture changes. The ability to operate and advise senior managers including Area Commanders on tactical H&S matters whilst under operational pressure to achieve the policing imperative. The ability to audit departments and Police Stations, including interviewing senior managers and staff, close out of audit recommendations. The ability to investigate major accidents, interview senior staff and collect evidence in accordance with professional and legal standards. The ability to manage their own administrative/clerical work. Ability to interface and participate as a team player. Formulate and deliver health and safety training. Experience in practical health and safety advice in a working environment. Ability to represent the views and interests of the company and other scrutiny bodies. An approved recognised health and safety professional qualification (minimum NEBOSH certificate or equivalent in H&S) Membership of an appropriate professional institute, which offers "Continuing Professional Development" holding registered or Chartered practitioner status, such as Tech. Grad. or Chartered Membership. A high level of IT literacy and skills in the use of word, excel, PowerPoint, project, accident data recording and software audit tools.
