Link Technologies has a contract opportunity for a Project Manager to work with one of our clients in Las Vegas, NV. PROJECT SCOPE: Contribute to the development of project management processes to support the implementation of a new Project Portfolio system. The project management consultant will provide leadership in project management best practices for four to six mid-size IT projects. Each project will have a technical project manager from the Office of Information Technology (OIT) responsible for overall project technical direction and delivery. The consultant will assist technical project managers with creating and utilizing project schedules (to track project task completion, schedule and resources) and in following defined project management practices. CORE JOB RESPONSIBILITIES: · Provide project management services for 4-6 mid-size, complex IT projects in a dynamic matrix organization. · In consultation with the Technical Project Managers, create Work Breakdown Structures and build project plans that include resource requirements and task dependencies. · Mentor technical project managers who have minimal training in professional project management in the creation and up keep of project schedules, risk matrixes, and status reports. · Provide project teams with practical techniques, motivation, and encouragement as they learn resource estimation and project management best practices. · Identify project interdependencies and over-allocated staff; then work with the OIT Project Review Team and Resource Managers to resolve the identified issues. · Facilitate project discussions to reconcile differences among team members. · Provide leadership in conducting project reviews, stakeholder communication, risk mitigation, and change control processes. · Set an example of project management excellence and nurture the professional growth of project team members. · Recommend efficiencies to support the project and portfolio management goals of the Office of Information Technology. QUALIFICATIONS: · 7-10 years of proven experience managing technically complex, cross-organizational projects. · 3-5 years of experience creating project plans with resource estimates and task dependencies in MS Project or similar project scheduling software. · Expertise in guiding technical staff through resource estimation and scheduling. · Experience with cross-project resource management. · Experience with providing program or project management for multiple, projects under a well-defined project management methodology. · Solid understanding of project management techniques, methodologies, and best practices. · Solid analytical skills and ability to think strategically. · Excellent verbal, written, and presentation skills. In particular, a demonstrated ability to communicate technical and project management concepts effectively. · Proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office tools (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project) · Current PMP certification is required. · Previous experience with portfolio management software preferred.
