Family Support Assistant
The Family Partners project provides intensive early support to whole families where children are at risk of neglect. Action for Children Family Partners is a relationship-based model providing focused intervention at an early stage to achieve change before problems become entrenched. Through intensive intervention from paid workers and then continued support from volunteers, we bring about change, improving safety and achieving improved health and wellbeing for children. The Role Volunteers play a key role in working with parents to identify and address pressure points in family life before they escalate to a problematic level. You will provide practical and emotional support to parents, helping them to continue to implement strategies developed with our Family Partners to reduce difficulties. This will include visiting families in their own home and sometimes accompanying them to groups or activities in the community. We are looking for volunteers who are: available for a few hours each week clear communicators able to empathise with parents struggling to cope with family life respectful and non-judgemental while not accepting of behaviours that are damaging to others able to identify when children are at risk, in the home or community understand the importance of maintaining confidentiality Training and support Training starts on 13th Sept and runs for 6 Thursday morning sessions. This will be followed by shadowing a paid Family Partner. A Family Partner will also meet with you regularly after you have started volunteering, to give ongoing advice and guidance.
