Principal SQL Server DBA
General Job Duties: Serves as subject matter expert in SQL Server Database technologies; advising on best practices, optimizing deployments, and utilizing your skill in high-availability/advanced features of versions 2000, 2005, and 2008 Lead tasks on project teams to deploy and maintain database technologies and database-dependent projects Provide oversight to or perform database administration tasks including installation, configuration, monitoring, maintenance, tuning, and back-up/recovery in a production environment Produce strategic, procedural, and standard documents for databases Promote and educate database policies within the enterprise Coordinate with business units to understand database requirements and collaborate with network, storage, and system engineers to design and deploy optimal database architectures Mentor and train other database administrators in SQL Server Database support and triage Lead troubleshooting efforts for IHS' internal and customer facing SQL Server Databases; own cross-discipline investigation of escalated problems, and be accountable for resolution Report to management regularly on database project status, identifying issues that may impede attainment of goals, recommending and implementing corrective measures Participate on a global team of DBAs, supporting large production databases, and sharing 24x7 on-call duties Liaison with Microsoft to stay abreast of SQL Server product releases and communicate and integrate relevant information within the DBA Team Track and manage SQL Server support cases with a vendor Analyze SQL Server Database performance data and usage trends to recommend proactive monitoring, implement corrective actions, and predict future usage Perform other duties as required Required Experience/Skills: 10+ years of experience administrating large, multi-user Microsoft SQL Server Databases (2000, 2005, and 2008) 5+ years of experience in a 24x7 work environment
