Job Title: Sr. Manager, Technology Job ID: 14821 Location: Arlington,VA, US Full/Part Time: Regular/Temporary: Regular Line of Business:Epsilon About the Opportunity Epsilon’s Digital Organization is looking for a talented, driven, and motivating individual to join its engineering team to work on delivery of Epsilon’s next-generation, multi-channel marketing platform. The Engineering Sr. Manager will provide professional leadership and handle all personnel related activities for direct reports. The Sr. Manager will coordinate and work closely with agile project team matrix managers to ensure development resources are appropriately aligned and effectively working to meet project and organizational goals. Tremendous opportunity for career growth and personal development in a fast-paced, rewarding environment. Responsibilities * Responsible to build and manage development engineering groups or teams. May manage the managers of multiple teams in a related functional area. * Responsible for hiring, retention, and termination of employees. * May serve as Technical Lead for a team or group. * Monitor, mentor, and coach direct reports on effective cross functional behavior and collaboration. * Participate in and accountability for cross functional initiatives and collaboration which may have significant impact on business unit results. * Ensures sound software engineering design, process, and quality practices are followed. * Maintain and monitor skills inventory and talent management tasks to identify training and/or hiring needs to develop the teams to the appropriate level. * Build individual development plans to facilitate skills development and career growth for direct reports. Provide feedback and guidance on performance to direct reports and subordinates. * Work with the Project Management Office in a matrix management environment to provide the necessary resource allocation to facilitate project or program success. * Create goals and objectives for teams or groups that align with Epsilon’s corporate vision and tactical objectives. Monitor progress toward goals and provide feedback and guidance, with corrective action as necessary, to ensure goals are achieved. * Serve as an escalation point for managers and subordinate employees. Effectively navigate and ensure employee compliance with Epsilon’s HR policies and procedures. * Regularly interact with upper management, peer managers, and employees within and beyond a particular function. * Develop solutions to difficult problems, which may require ingenuity and creativity. Provide sound decision making for software engineering and product development, sensitive to the constraints and needs of the business. Influence future product/portfolio direction. * Participate in strategic, long-range planning for the organization. Develop tactical goals to support the strategy. * Active in the continuous improvement of Epsilon’s Software Development Lifecycle processes, practices, and initiatives. * May require involvement in occasional production issue troubleshooting and resolution. * May require involvement in necessary support of implemented and deployed solutions. * Understand current and possible future business and industry trends. * May participate in budgetary planning. * Must enjoy what you do and have fun while contributing to your team and organization’s success! Qualifications Required Skills: * Expert in Software Development Lifecycle processes and methodologies, and Software Engineering best practices. * Advanced experience and expertise with appropriate development technologies, tools, and web applications. * Experience developing services and managing resources in a SOA environment. * Experience managing and technically leading a team of engineers in cross-functional environments. * Demonstrated knowledge and experience with Oracle databases. * Demonstrated knowledge and experience with UNIX system(s), Windows. * Ability to motivate a team and influence others to achieve results. * Ability to reach appropriate resolution in varied situations without damaging internal or external relationships. * Proven track record in providing feedback and career development assistance to employees. * Solid background in people management, able to adjust management style based on individual employee needs. * Stays aware of industry trends. Leadership and Interpersonal Skills: * Effective leader, skilled facilitator. influential with upper management and with project team leadership, a competent negotiator. * Manages managers successfully. Establishes alliances with other departments and organizations by recognizing potentially beneficial partnerships for projects and programs. * Holds oneself to high ethical standards, inspires others to do the same. * Required Qualifications: * BS or Masters in computer science or related field * 10+ years hands-on experience in software engineering * 5+ years experience managing high performing software development teams, more recently managing managers of software development teams * Experience managing in an Agile environment; Certified ScrumMaster certification preferred. * Demonstrated experience of managing in a matrix organization Nice-to-Have Skills: * Good understanding of software and internet security * Detailed understanding of SMTP and e-mail applications * Experience with Tibco technologies * Experience with remote development teams * Experience in large scale, 24x7, service oriented environment * Strong understanding of digital marketing technologies required, experience with Epsilon’s product line a plus.
